Offline | The irony of the Aussie forum.... It seems ironic that the Australian new MINI club was the first worldwide to be officially recognised by BMW AG and as far as i know, the first section of this board to be nuked out of existence Although our club has nothing to do with MINI2, many of the founding members and people who got it going have been long time supporters of this board. In the early days, we introduced many people to it through spreading the word about this board to the dealerships and individuals on the street. I even bought one of the first t-shirts, coffee mugs and gave some money as a sponsor....To see that our section has been stopped due to a few people not fitting into a nice tidy box seems excessive, then again, i haven't payed much attention lately... Whilst it is a burden to have to put up with some members who do not have the maturity to know when to stop, it is never the less a scenario that will crop up if you have a public forum on the internet. There are always going to be the idiots who post dumb things, but you really need to remember that most of us know who they are and see their posts as a reflection of them, not the board. People inherently know what is right.... Maybe you are right, the Aussie section has been hi-jacked by bad elements.... My view would be that those people are either isolated out by time and will go on their merry way, or, grow up and contribute in a more inclusive way. I personally would like to be able to point new members of our mini club to this board as a source of information on Australian events, but that is not important, we have other methods of communication if needed. I suppose all fads end eventually... It is not heartbreaking although i did enjoy the motorsport events section for those of us that were serious about that end of MINI culture. The original SWORKS |

| MINI2 Senior | Certainly share your sentiments Andrew and for myself the first i knew the Aussie section was gone was simply that - it was gone... ![]() I would have thought we could have been pulled 12 months ago but saw no reason for it to be wiped off the boards now. Is there an explanation as to why this has happened? mmm not sure. Whilst I certainly don't live my life by this or any other internet boards like some do (not there's anything wrong with that), this forum has given me years of fun and entertainment and would like to wish my fellow Aussie adios and say it's a real shame, and somewhat a mystery (for me at least), that we leave. ![]() Having fun, taking the p1$$, robust debate and meeting you all face to face has all been fun. Take care. Danny |

Offline | Hi, Everyone should remember before they post, that all the non-verbal and situational context of speech is lost on a message board. You lose the tone in the voice, the smiles, gestures etc that imply whether you are serious, not sure, joking or poking fun For example, at a party someone might poke fun at me, and my response might be "oh shut up you fool", or "I'm going to kill you" . Because we are face to face, the person can see that I am laughing, and pretending to be angry. They don't need to call the police to get me arrested. However, on a bulletin board it is different. I might misinterpret someones post, which I thought was being sarcastic, but was really meant to be serious. Chuckling at my computer I might say back "I'm going to kill you you fool" . Unfortunately this can look like a serious threat without the appropriate non-verbal context This is especially true when using sarcasm or irony, where you are saying one thing, but implying the opposite. The humour can be completely lost. Everyone should bear this is in mind when making posts, especially when trying to be funny An example of the above are the posts by Brett and Rakey above. I'm pretty sure that Brett was trying to be funny. However, with Rakey's post I genuinely don't know whether he was trying to be funny and sarcastic in response, or whether he misinterpreted Brett's post and was annoyed at Brett Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

| -Mr T- | I'm with you buddy. I saw the funny side of that. As if he meant it? Although he is from the outback and you know what they're like....with their crocodile skin vests and big knives Disclaimer: This post is meant to be light hearted and I am only joking... any correspondence please contact Magictux for a more thorough explanation of what humour is.. |

| -Mr T- | I agree Robbo but the point is that Paul's reply to Brett made sense and he didn't jump to the wrong conclusion. He obviously saw the humour in Brett's post and also knows the mere mention of alcohol will diffuse any situation with Aussies. It's when the grog runs out that the problems start.. It was a joke. We all knew it was a joke (including Paul) so that should have been that. If we can't have humour then we should all drive Vauxhalls and go work in a bank...![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (Disclaimer re offending Vauxhall drivers and bank workers inserted here) Last edited by Magictux : Apr 15th, 2005 at 11:14 PM. Reason: thought I should put some smilies in for interpretation purposes |
