Can you track your mini to Australia once ordered

We ordered our mini a couple of weeks ago and since signing on the paper have heard nothing from the dealer except when we ring to ask questions ie we werent even given a delivery date so had to ring them two weeks later to find out what was happening.

We were told mid July but now with the HK fire I assume that will be delayed. Seems like USA owners have a way of tracking what is happening and have already been advised of their new delivery dates but I don' t trust our dealer to ring us with updates.

I have to sell my existing car privately but don't want to sell too early and have to drive our gymkana 4wd Suzuki back and forwards to work every day as a bit of a pig to drive on the road plus has harnesses instead of seat belts so hard to get into and out of so want to hang onto my road car as long as possible.

I guess I'm just feeling a bit disappointed that once we sign over our money there is no contact. My husband rang to ask about something and was fortunate to get a different person and found out all about options for programming but this was never discussed earlier when we should have made decisions between us. I hate feeling like a mushroom and am one of those type of people who needs very bit of information possible but feel like I am getting nothing at the moment.

How do people find out what their production month, etc is as per the forums on this site?

Any help appreciated

USA owners can track through the factory, but Oz doesnt have that luxury.

You can, however, track your MINI once it sets sail for Oz

Wallenius Wilhelmsen lines carries MINIs to Australia, and provides a tracking system from its website here:
http://www.2wglobal.com/www/WEP/index.jsp

You will however, need your VIN number. You'll have to ask your dealer for this, and chances are, it wont be available at least until your MINI has a schuduled build run. Keep onto them and they can get it for you when it is available though It will look something like WMWRE32000TC86123.

Click 'Cargo Tracking' from the bottom left of the WW website and select Auto Cargo from the menu on the right. Type in your VIN, hit track and that should do you

It does kinda suck when your so enthusiastic about your Mini and want to find out more about it, and yet to the dealer selling it its just like another ordinary sale.

It is likely that your car will be built 2 months before it lands in Aus. Your MCS could be either a May or June production. Have your dealer notify you when the VIN is received, then you can start tracking it!....Mine is on a ship now, the promised phone call from the dealer never came. It pays off to contact them once in a while~

It has been my experience in over four months of waiting that not much info is forthcoming. I was told by a salesperson that the MINI2 site could not offer much information re tracking my car and that the BMW system is much more reliable.

" just contact us and we'll give you any information we have" I was told. So I tracked my car all the way from South Hampton and as it was getting close to Oz I rang and asked if they had any info. " No haven't heard anything at this stage" I told them that it was arriving on 20th April. " Okay, I'll get back to you." They later told me it was actually due on 27th April. Well it did arrive on 20th April and was unloaded on 22nd. I still have no further information.

So, I hope your experience is better than mine....not that it's really all that bad. However my wife commented just tonight that before we signed up it was the salesman contacting us but once ordered it has been us chasing him up.

Anyhow, you are on the right site which will help you with the waiting sickness that many thousands before you have suffered..

Your wait has just begun but mine is nearly over...So it should be. I ordered on 23rd December after all!

Welcome to MINI2 BTW..

It does seem it varies from dealer to dealer. I was given my VIN number ASAP by Motorline here in Daisy Hill, and I have done the tracking ever since via Wilhelmsen's web site. To be fair to BMW, there isn't much they can tell you that you don't already know by checking yourself. Having said that, my dealer has been in touch to arrange the storage of the vehicle while we sell our own, and, to advise cleaning products etc we should buy to look after the car when we get it.
I think the rule of thumb is, one week after it docks at your port of call, it will be at the dealer ready to go.
Our wait is almost over too, our MCSC will be in Brisbane on Saturday, and , although we are contracted to a 1st July delvery date, we will take the car much earlier if and when we sell ours.
cheers
Darrell

We tracked DEMINI on the WW website, and knew that the car was arriving two days later than scheduled, and changing ships in Sydney.Dealer had no idea, and was surprised when we told her,and I don't think she really believed us until it arrived on the day we told her it would.Unfortunately that was two days later than her original plan, and so instead of delivery this Saturday,it won't be ready until Monday-not so bad,but I can't get there till Thursday!!! It is driving me crazy, this waiting business....
I have had no contact about programming-should I get on to my dealer about this,or will I receive an email-or is that just the way they do it in the US? I assume this is all about the key opening the windows, and sunroof, and stuff, right?

I have had no contact either about programming. I am assuming, (dangerous I know), that bespoke programming can be done at the dealer. I know you can drp the cabrio roof remotely etc, but I think you can also tweak your buttons (oo-er) to do other things.
As I said before, when the car is on the boat there is no GPRS tracking, as I think there is? in the US.. so once you have your VIN number , just track on the WW site
cheers

The lady my husband spoke to was "after sales" person and they asked him which programming options he wanted ie when you press the key to open it can open all the doors or just the drivers door with the first press and stuff like that. He wont tell me half of what he ordered so it will be a surprise for me but said I will like the choices he picked because most of them are safety issues.

Every time he rings for info he looks at more options that will cost us more money ie now thinking about window tinting. Has anyone else ordered this from BMW or elsewhere and is it worth it. Now he is thinking about stripes and also trying to find out about if we can get a LSD (Limited Slip Diff) that was mentioned on Mini2 somewhere. Does anyone have any info/opinions on this??

By the time my mini arrives I will be up for another couple of thousands dollars so hope it doesnt run late??

I think you would find that 'aftermarket' tinting would be a lot cheaper. I know that aftermarket stripes are definitely cheaper and there are a couple of members of this fine site that can supply (or supply and fit) bonnet stripes and all sorts of grapics. 'Boo' and 'Alexpalex' are two that I know of.

LSD is standard on MCS produced from Jan 05.

Daisygirl

Know where you are coming from. My MSC is due July, but ordered in late March but as a dealer order which went into production April.

Regarding stripes, in WA this guy does most of the mini's via the Dealer or direct
http://www.response-graphics.com/

My view is that even though you can save money by doing it elsewhere, remember, then also you have the problems of chasing through if something goes wrong. Being in the Purchasing role, its just not worth it, so Im getting both the tinting, paint and fabric protection done by dealer, now also the stripes. then they are responsible for any issues or repairs.

Hope this helps.

Yes LSD come on all MCS from Jan 05.
