I'll say that I have a Pre-Spec 02' straight off the ship and have never had any major problems with my car, however it only has 11,000ks on it.
I would imagine its already done the usual recalls like the expansion tank replacement and maybe a boot locking mechanism.

Hey Adam

Good to here you are getting close, unfortunately, I have till wait till July, which is a painful at present as I just want to start driving it.

Regarding Freight, the price I received was via Toll at $880 ex Melbourne, boxed, collected, but only to yard in Perth for me to collect, however, freight costs are on rise so under $1,000 is fine.

You also may want to watch the stamp duty issue, as I think the seller wants to keep his plates. May I suggest that you discuss with him, that the plates remain on vehicle and that when you transfer later, that you agree then to return plates, as otherwise you may not benefit from the SD in VIC.

I hope to attend next WA meeting just to meet all the guys and it was good to catch up at AC.

Not sure if that's the case for Perth but...

Tell the owner to de-register the car so he gets the rego money back plus the plates since you gotta transfer rego once it arrive in Perth anyway so the rego money will be forfeited (based on NSW rules).

Dairyboy, I was refering to the stamp duty on the transfer as the cost to transfer in WA is double to cost of east coast. Rego is something different. Most states you can not just hold onto the plates, these must go onto another vehicle or the department holds the plates until you have another vehicle.

Therefore, if owner is not in hurry, then better to keep as registered in VIC, as then you pay transfer fees for VIC, the Rego is still due 12 monthly or 6 monthly, but SD is on top for any purchase. Once you deregister, then he would have to relicence and pay the SD in WA. If purchased in VIC you have upto 3 months to tranfer, but in any case you only ever pay the SD once, either WA or VIC etc etc

IF you ask the SD office's you will get 2 stories, whichever favours the state concerned. It would help if he has a postal address in VIC or relative, as this would greatly assist.

In summary, you can buy a vehicle in VIC and freight it over and have inspected for less than the SD alone in WA.

Sounds like getting Vic stamp duty will turn into a bit of a drama. Is the difference really that much? My maths is showing about $900 in Vic and $1500 in WA as the difference in stamp duty.

Adam

That may be correct, not sure, but on $44,000 it was more that double, it depends on the purchase value, as WA increases at greater rate. The thread note was more to highlight that you only have to pay once and that there are options to purchase with little impact.

Hey, you see the 2003 MCS on Carsales.com.au for only $34k and 29,000 kms. Worht considering also from NSW.

Getting the MCS mentioned in the beginning of the thread. High Ks, but after finding out it was owned by a Mini2 member and after I got a bit of a price concession the offer was just too good to resist.
