Offline | Has anyone purchased a new remote keyfob for thier MINI? I was thinking of adding to the one that came with the car so that both my wife and myself can remotely enter and exit the vehicle, using seperate keys. If anyone did what was the cost and time frame of the purchase, ie can it be done while you wait? Thanks for your help. Chilli_Red ![]() |

Online | I've not done this with the MINI but it may be a little more complex and expensive than you think. I'd expect cost to somewhere between $200-400 and would also expect that the key would need to be a special order from Germany. Would be interested in finding out though. ![]() ![]() Cheers Liam |

Offline | Thanks for the reply Liam. I knew it would not be cheap, so i expect around the $200 mark or so. As to coming from Germany I don't know, it would be a great inconvenience if you lost the only remote and had to wait a few weeks for the replacement. Hopefully someone has got a new key and will tell us it took 1 hour and was $15 (very tongue in cheek) NOT!! Chilli_Red ![]() |

Offline | Hi Chilli Red, I lost my keys a few weeks ago, I paid $230 for the key and $37 for the programming. The key took one week to be sent from Germany and the programming took 1 hour, Hope this helps!!! Simon TheBert |

Online | Tell me abou it ... it happened with my old Golf! That was about the only time I was glad though that the car did not come standard with remote central locking. I had fitted an aftermarket system and only had to go to Hornsby to get a new remote. ![]() |

Offline | Thanks for your help guys Thanks to all that replied, it has at least given me the ball park to expect to pay. I will enquire at the dealer for a fixed cost and go from there. Chilli_red ![]() |

| Boy who made the wolf cry | My mum's BMW which use the same keys as the MINI now has a setting where her key opens the car and changes her mirrors and seat to her position.. when dad gets in, his key opens the car & changes everything to his setting... I was thinkng of getting one for me too - well there are three seat memory positions ![]() I dont think the MINI keys would wipe themselves out.. Offline | I would of thought that BMW would allow more than one remote key for the MINI, so thanks for bringing the point up ZapoMCS. Also thanks to Stu and Todd for confirming that there is no problem with having 2 remotes. May be able to find out soon about the cost of an extra remote, if I do I will post it here. | Boy who made the wolf cry | You hold the button down after opening all the doors - you have to hold it down... You can also do it by putting the key in the door and holding it in the unlock position. I dont think you can close it with the keyfob, but you can close it by putting the key in the door lock and turning it to the lock position...
