Yes I have a girlfriend.. No, she doesn't like to corner at 165Km/h. End of story.

Can't wait for the November meet. Maybe I'll see if she'll come out anyway, hah. Afterall, I'm not speeding, I'm just 'going with the flow of traffic.' Right?

Hey yuze gyz - regarding your runflats - I have Dunlop 16s on right now, but would be willing to talk about buying another set for future use when these go.

another thread hi-jack, but interested in hearing from local...Calgary people what your winter tire/wheel setup is. Also where did you buy them from?

Just ordered a set of 15" 5 spoke alloys, with kumho KW17's from CMS for $875 total. They have some decent deals, link below.

KW 17s are good choice for Calgary's winter. I had those on my Volvo and they were great.

I'm sticking with the 175/65/15 all season contis with my Cooper this winter. This morning with all the snow and ice on the road, it felt amazingly good. To be honest, I'm very suprised how stable and how easily the car put the power down onto the road. I guess the lack of torque steer on MINIs means both wheels get equal amount of power, so there is much less slippage. And unlike most other people, I found the traction control very gentle and not intrusive at all.

Its not as good as my Volvo with winter tires, but it is pretty damn good!

I agree. The all-seasons handle ok, but I would prefer if my wife has winter tires for driving on deerfoot every day. This will be the first winter I will really drive my MINI.
Only drove it in winter occasionally the first year I had it, and last year it sat from November to June.

The KW17's seemed like the ideal tire for our climate. Snow one day, clear roads the next.

Exactly, they are just about perfect for us. I don't think you need to go too hardcore on snow tires if you're in the city limits here, having decent dry traction is great, we have lots of snow free days in the winter too.

so $875 for tires/rims/blanaced? thats pretty good!

These are the rims I got in 15" with 195/60/15 KW17's. Basic FRD 5 spoke. Should look ok.

Used to have a set of Blizzak MZ-01's on my stealth. Good tire, but the rear of the car was all over the place when braking hard. Hoping the harder compound on the KW17's will behave better. Tire Rack also has a good deal on winter rims/tires, but I didn't want to wait for shipping.

We should start a calgary perpetual owners thread....?

An idea for the next meet/next spring meet? Not sure if it is gravel or paved though.

If that is the road I think it is (the forestry trunk road), I would think twice about taking a 4WD truck on it, never mind a MINI...
