So does anyone really feel the need to "speed"? If not then maybe we should just all stick together. I volunteer to be at the front unless someone feel the need to "lead" I don't mind at all!

By the way, the forcast for Friday/Saturday/Sunday are all sunny and high around 10C, we're in luck, the road should be free of snow and ice!

I got the w/talkies today so I'll charge them up for Sunday. Is anyone going to bring a map or anything just in case for the people who aren't sure where they are going?

Yep, I'll print out 4-5 maps.

So the plan is, meet at 12pm, leave at 12:30pm through the Rona exit, lead Mini (me, for now) and Morrison will keep in touch via radio to see if everyone is together, if not, we'll try to bunch up together on the side of the road after Bearspaw (after the last traffic light on 1A). Then we head out through Cochrane, rest/picture stop at Ghost Lake (1:15pm), drive together to Chez Francois. (2:15pm)

Lunch/Coffee for about an hour (3:30pm), Picture time at the parking lot, drive back to Calgary non stop.

Do you guys know of any good places to take group pictures along 1A? I do recall seeing some pretty cool places but I don't remember exactly where.

I also wouldn't mind getting one or two video shots of the MINI's rolling by somewhere, somehow. Maybe we can combine the two?

The best way to get these video shots would probably be driving forwards 1-2 minutes ahead of all the other MINIs and shooting back I think. If you can somehow communicate with the lead MINI where you are (perhaps by using the odometer trip function, both Minis reset them at the start, so you can tell the lead Mini you're at the *80.5* km mark, and the lead Mini will know how far ahead you are by looking at its own odometer)

Ok its pretty stupid to reply to myself, but here is a map of the route. Ghost lake is right in the middle between Crowfoot and Canmore, so its a good rest stop.

We should plan another "gathering stop" after we go through Cochrane. Going across the 22 will split things up pretty good.

As far as getting a shot of all the MINI's, I would prefer a left hand curve taken at only a moderate speed (artsy fartsy shot, I know). We'll figure it out somehow. Hmm, how am I going to get our own car in there....

Good idea, another pull over onto the side right after Cochrane. As for how you can get a shot of your own MINI, I suppose if you park on the side of the road, you can include your Mini in a non moving shot

Or perhaps a couple drivers would want to be in the "drive fast" group, you can ride with them and shoot back at the main group (which your wife would be driving in).

By the way, I think we should start a new thread for posting pictures/videos, this one is getting a little too long to read for someone who wasn't involvoed in our lenghty discussion

There is a good spot after Ghost lake (somewhere around Morley). It is on the South side of the 1A. A memorial of an old church. It has a big gravel parking area. If we aren't going to meet there, you could zip ahead and park there to take a video as everyone goes by. Does anyone remember exactly where I mean?

Yes I remember seeing that little church on the side of the road. Don't think we should stop twice on route to Canmore however, don't want to keep the restaurant people waiting too long, and especially don't want to drive back to Calgary on 1A when its too dark out Sunset is at around 4:40pm, we'll be leaving Canmore at about 3:30, so we should be back in Calgary just around sunset I think.

Which place is the best for taking group pictures? Ghost lake or the little church?

So I decided to do some 'breaking in' today and did the 1A drive up to Canmore. It is sooooo much fun, especially the last bit by the factories. I wasn't looking for any good photo ops unfortunately but from what I can think of Ghost lake is probably the best bet. It has a fairly large parking lot so we could actually fit all the MINIs.
Also I spoke to my friend and he will most likely be able to come and film. He's actually won some filmography awards so hopefully he will do a good job for us.
Now I just have to finish my break in period before the meet...I'm a 1/4 of the way there!

Hehe, you know what, on the second day I got my Cooper, I also drove up 1A, through Canmore, into Banff. Great drive Before Ghost Lake its pretty dull, but then it gets really twisty and fun!

You know, on second thought I think you should be the person behind the camera Those pictures you took last month were wicked! And today is the big day isn't it! Going to pick up your MINI!

About taking videos of the meet, Clive (who didn't want to post on Mini2) said

So perhaps MiniVee can take footage from the back of the pack?
