Offline | For this particular Run idea, I would vote for more of a date in May. Since the end destination does not have a coffee or tea house, it becomes a bit anti climatic IMHO. With warmer weather, we could at least hold a hot dog roast or something along those lines. Make it the Big Spring Run where everyone can bring their MINI's out from their winter prep / hibernation states. How about a smaller run / coffee meet in March instead? They don't all need to be great expeditions... ![]() ![]() PS the first picture is from the September meet. ![]() |

Offline | Someone on the other thread said there was a good coffee place at Kananaskis... Would like to hear suggestions as well, just post any destination that you think is good for a Mini meet ![]() I don't mind a smaller run/trip, I just like twisty roads, and there aren't any within 50km of Calgary. However, maybe we could have a downtown parade or something like that, and take some MINI meet pictures in the city, that would be fun too! |

Offline | At Kananaskis Village there is the Delta Lodge with a couple restaurants/lounges where I'm sure we could get some coffee. I believe the map is a bit off though, you would need to turn off by Nakiska which is quite a bit before the lakes. As for heading back what about taking the long route through Black Diamond? Any idea how long that would be? |

Offline | Well, if we do take a tour around the city it might be good for spotting other MINIs that don't know about MINI2 yet. But lets try to stay away from traffic lights as much as possible, they tend to disrupt the flow. And if we could ever work a charity into a city run, I'm sure I could get the paper involved somehow. | MEEP! MEEP! | I put us down for March 26th, but we're actually ok with anything BUT March 5th, Gotta go to Red Deer for a wedding that weekend. If we get whacked by winter on the date that finally gets chosen, we think an "Around Calgary" drive would be fun too. Because of the problem of getting split up by traffic lights, we could each have a list of our "photo op" sites that everyone heads for. We gather, take our pics, then head to the next one. Might be kina fun. Offline | Hmm, sounds like an interesting idea. We could go to Kananaskis in late fall and drive the Highwood pass loop at the same time. How about we have an intown scavenger hunt, then gather at a restaurant for dinner, and watch the Targa Newfoundland video? About the scavenger hunt, what would we "hunt"? I was thinking, maybe splitting up into a couple of teams and have each team go take pictures of their MINIs infront of some Calgary landmarks? Then when we go to the restaurant at night we can load up the pictures on a computer and see who has taken the most pictures and give them a prize? |

| Fly Heli's they're fun! | I have never been on one, but the scavenger hunts usually work that way. You split up into teams with a set of clues, and from the clues, you have to get to destinations for either more clues, or do a task there. The team who correctly answers the most clues and get's it done the quickest wins. For this, it could be a set of clues or questions based on trivia that lead you to different locations. The teams could take pics at the different locations, and in the end you take a look at the pics to see if they got the locations correct. Could be a lot of fun. The other 'game' I participated in was you had to do a set of tasks to start, say complete an obstical course or something, then collect the clues at the end of the first set of tasks, and your off. This helps to space out the teams so they don't just follow each other. Of course something like this does take some planning and organizing, and unfortunately the organizer cannot participate (as they know all the answers). Alternatively, we could have people sign up into teams, and they would give another team the set of clues. Then all could participate. Obviously, this would not be a simple undertaking. I've always thought it would be nice to do something as well as the drive, i.e. do 'something' at the destination other then massive pic taking (which is still cool). Not sure if anyone else feels the same way or not. The meets are fine as they are too. Anyhow food for thought some day. Trevor. |

Offline | For the past couple of summers I've been planning on holding a MINI car rally. My wife and I have organized a few games for large reunions, etc. as well as 3 car rallies in the past. Works fairly well - everyone starts off at staggered times and drives around the city for an hour or so. There are trivia questions, directional tricks, optimal timing issues, etc. that the drivers and co-drivers have to work on. I was again thinking of holding the first one this year, so if you guys are interested I will start working on it. I don't want to hold it if only a couple of people show up, but we also can't run with any more than around 60 cars. The only thing is I don't want to run it until part way into May as I'm back working weekends until then. Unless there is a really good reason to hold it before then. Also, I would prefer it if we had somewhere to hang around after each MINI comes in for the scoring, so we would have to think where it could end. Driving is Everything ... Offline | I think a scavenger hunt/pictures thing in and around downtown is a great idea, and has the potential for much fun! If it was a Sunday traffic would not be an issue, and I'd love to have all the pedestrians wondering what the 'ell is going on with all these MINI's jetting about. I spoke with the MINI regional rep and she is willing to contribute the prizes. Whaddya say we organize one? |

Offline | The Calgary MINI Run 2006 I've had to start a new thread to explain why I am moving the 1st annual Calgary MINI Run to a later date. Please read the new thread called "The Calgary MINI Run 2006". If any of you guys want to get together in March or April, I am still game - but maybe we can just meet for lunch if the roads are bad or take another drive out West if the roads are clear. Sorry, but my event has now turned into a glass of fine wine - it can't be rushed. Driving is Everything ... Anything else is just waiting around ... |

| Fly Heli's they're fun! | Ok all, so what is the plan for March?? Is it a run, or a scavenger hunt (that would be different then the annual run) or what. Let's nail this down, or meet for discussion????? Say McKays in Cochrane for ice cream in the coming weeks? I'm up for something, let's do it! |
