The Calgary MINI Run 2006

I've been talking to the dealership and starting to make arrangements for the annual
MINI Run Calgary - the first being in 2006.

The event is going to be an organized run around Calgary starting and ending from a hotel. It will be a timed run, with printed directions, observations from the co-driver, trivia to be answered and many other interactions from each team. And of course - lots of driving !!!

I am drawing up a route around the city, as well as printing up some posters, signs, booklets and maps, etc. There will be a scoring team and prizes awarded.

However in order to do this properly, I need a little time to prepare, organize and print everything. I can't use any of your guys help because I want all of you to run in it.

Also I want as many participants as possible - so I need to hold the event later in order to give people a chance to hear about it and register for it.

Therefore, I am now planning on holding Calgary's 1st Annual MINI Run on May 28th.

Please e-mail me or let me know if this date is going to be a big problem for people and I may be able to move it a week or so.

I have set up an e-mail - calgaryminirun@shaw.ca

Please let me know by e-mail or here on MINI2 as I would like to firm up the date ASAP.

Thanks,

Gord

Hmm, that date is only a weekend before the Rally in the Valley in Kelowna / Penticton.

I didn't pick the weekend before because it is the May long weekend. And the Sunday before that is Mother's Day. I also didn't want to wait until June to run it as it's getting into the long drive out-of-town season.

But I had read that the Rally in the Valley was June 30 to July 2 ( a month later).

And as long as May 28th doesn't conflict with too much right on the day (the BMW driving school is only on Friday and Saturday) then since the Run will only take up Sunday afternoon at the most - from perhaps Noon until 4:00 or 5:00, I am hoping most people can make it.

I'd really like to get more than 30 cars, but we shall see.

Works for us.

We think Sunday, May 28th would be a great day for the Run. We'll be there.

If you get it arranged, let me know ... I won't win but I sure won't be last either ...

Anyway, as we all know - no rules of the road can be broken in organized events. I've described the idea for my run on my little "free" web page:

This should be really really good if all goes well.

The poster is okay but I think you need more of a "city" aspect of it as it will be held in Calgary and not in the moutains.

If I get a chance I'll forward you some ideas, probably wont be until next week as I have Beatroute Magazine I need to but together by March 2 as well as a print portfolio on the same day.

I also will be able to get a buddy of mine to cut some vinyl for the event, maybe the dealership can pay or it will be super cheap and the particapants can cover the vinyl.

I did the poster up as sort of a retro image because it is the first rally. And that's why it's the mountains and not the city. Postcards from the turn of the 19th century always showed Calgary as the mountains (more like Banff or Canmore).

I've only printed 3 posters for now and had them laminated because the cost for each poster is over $50.00.

I've also got the vinyl covered for now, but I'll get in touch with you if I run into any problems. Thanks for the info.
