Where are all the other CP owners? Yesterday, while driving down the Don Valley Parking Lot, I was right beside another CR/W MINI CP. I waved, he waved and that was about it. No "Wow Man, nice car!" sentiments and we are driving the most awesome MINI ever made, with the possible exception of the GP. Where have all the enthusiasts gone? In the beginning, every MINI owner waved, honked the horn, flashed the lights and treated you like long lost family. Nowadays you may not even get a sideways glance. What's up with that? Seems to me that MINI owners out west are still living the dream though.
Fencing contractor painted our fences (new development) with a grey, oil based paint. Our newly built garage was without a garage door at this time. Mini was inside and somehow a fine mist of this paint covered the entire vehicle with the drive side receiving the lightest spray. I didn't notice this for about two weeks cause the weather has been relatively crappy. Went to detail and whammo! One couldn't tell by looking at is from a short distance, even close up in spots it is hard to see, but I was devastated. The surface of the car is totally rough like sand paper. Way worse than a kid barfing in my passenger seat.
So, fencing contractor is long gone and I have little ground to stand on but my own. So I got out my Zaino clay bars and went to town. It took me an hour to do the hood and front fenders. I need better weather and a heated garage to finish it off. Thankfully this crap is coming off, but it is like the detail job from hell. Elbow grease is needed in bulk for this job. Also glad this car is so small. That is the story. When I am done, the MINI will spot free and smooth as a baby's bottom. Pity it had to happen and happen so soon after purchase.
Sweet! This sounds like the MINI Crowfoot car that Abulia bailed on. Glad you got it and glad you posted. How wicked this package is. After several months now of owning this car my only fault is the lack of steering wheel controls. How long have you had yours?
I have had it for a week now. I'm looking at getting the colour coding done to match the body. Not sure what else to get. It pretty sweet, but I tell you, trying to drive gingerly through the break-in period is killing me. KILLING ME. I'm like a fat kid surrounded by chocolate cake.
I can empathize CB. Those first 2000 kms., all that potential energy just waiting to be unleashed. The day will come soon enough when she is broken in and then you realize just what an awesome little buggy the CE really is. And don't feel too badly for poor Mr. Abulia...he just couldn't sell his Porsche. The only things I have added to Banshee are the 3M full frontal treatment, racing stripes and the JCW wheel centre inserts.
