Speaking of your high beams....

Did I not notice that you were not running daytime running lights during the Kananaskis run? Did you take the bulbs or fuse out?

Yeah, I'm too lazy to go to Crowfoot to get it fixed, so I just unplugged the working one so the car doesn't look like it has a blind eye. Actually there's a reason why I haven't been to Crowfoot to get that fixed yet, I wanna check the wiring I did for my amp installation and make sure this isn't related before I go there, dont' wanna be hit with a $200 bill or something if they tell me it was my fault.

Join the club for electical issues. I have a climate control that occasionally refuses to work, and on some days the entire heating/cooling system won't turn on?!? Also my drivers 1 touch windows fail occasionally and sometimes my sunroof doesn't feel like opening.

Again, it is now and then...not every time, and again MINI Crowfoot insists there is nothing wrong. Next time it fails on me I am going to drive straight there to prove it.

Fun times. I should buy another Toyota as I never had a single issue in 10+ years. . I guess it is what makes the MINI a MINI.

I have had a couple of intermmitent problems and got the same reply about they have to duplicate the problem to repair under warranty. Which is fair but often I find the tech will not dig to find out the problem unless pressured or on your dime.

Can we expect a Yaris with racing stripes sneaking into the pack on the next MINI run?

Ah yes, Toyota quality.
The wife did not let a day go by when my MIni was out-of-action without reminding me why our Matrix was so much better since it has never had a problem in four years.

By day 4 I was starting to buy into it.

Interesting that as soon as we got the Mini back she drove it the first chance she got!

After driving the Matrix for a week I remember why I bought a Mini.

The weather has been on again/off again for the past few days with lots of rain so driving has been somewhat limited. Had occasion to be toodling along a secondary road today when along came a Cooper 'S'. We were darting in and out of traffic and I had a great grin all over my face but nary a smirk from the lady driving the 'S'. I waved vigorously attempting to get her attention but not a nudge, nor a wink, nor a smile, nor any emotion whatsoever. Even though I am still breaking Banshee in and mindful of the shift points I just love the way she pulls, so eager, so responsive and I knew that I could have left that 'S' behind if I were not behaving myself.

Stopped by the dealer to show my son the two-timing winner of the Targa Newfoundland. Yes, there she is in all her glory, unceremoniously parked in the back lot like a forgotten toy, amongst a bunch of other brand new MINI's and some BMW's. Methinks she should be front and centre in the middle of the showroom, perched upon a pedestal, cordoned off by velvet rope with one or two security guards to keep tire kicking toes and fudge marked fingers away. By the way, all the carbon fibre bits look absolutely great on her. I think that they should have been included on the CP model since we are supposed to be commemorating the Targa win.

You never miss what you haven't had. Well, I had cruise control and am starting to miss it. I was able to limit my speed on highways by the use of this little button but now, on the occasions that I check the speedometer while travelling on the highway I am invariably going about 140 kph. I had climate control and just set it to 20C, turned the air on as necessary in the summer and otherwise never worried about it. Now, I am fiddling with all kinds of knobs and dials trying to get the side windows defogged so that I can see what's behind me. And that cup holder thing is definitely on it's way out. Another thing I miss is the stereo controls on the steering wheel. Now that I have the upgraded Harmon Kardon stereo I have to reach over and push a bunch of buttons to change stations, or adjust volume or switch between AM and FM or CD. Distracting is what it is. And I think I am going to miss the heated windshield once the weather turns colder as well. But I am not going to miss the first gear lurch. And I love the Snap, Crackle and Pop of the exhaust whenever I lift my foot off the gas, and the supercharger whine is so much louder than my 'S' ever was. I also missed the bonnet stripes and 3M stoneguard protection so they have already been applied. And, with any luck, she will be completely broken in before first snow.

What's up with fuel consumption? I averaged about 9.7l/100km. with my 'S' and am now getting 11.8l/100km. with the Works and I am taking it easy. And the turbo is supposed to be about 30% more fuel efficient than the supercharger. Yikes, I may have to move to Alberta.

Hey Chris,
Shouldn't this plate be on your car?

My celica was the most reliable vehicle I have owned.
Besides oil changes, preventative maintenance etc. Only did brakes and a muffler...
Sold it because the rust took over....

Bring back the Supra already...!!!

Ah, there's the Stickman! Glad you're having fun with the car, and I agree completely that the Targa car should be getting a little more respect than sitting in a back lot 'till next year!!!

As for the cruise control, I am really interested in any retrofit kits for cruise and the multifunction steering wheel buttons. Those aren't necessary, but would be really keen.

As for the fuel economy, don't worry about it too much now... the engine is still breaking in. Fuel economy SHOULD stabilize and be reduced once that happens. New engines often have worse fuel economy due to numerous factors, including valves that still need seating and feet that are pressing alot harder on the accelerator than they think they are

That sounds about what my fuel mileage was like for the first 2 or 3K. It really settled down after about 8K, I average about 9.8 around town.

Don't NewMINIstuff do a cruise control retrofit?

I know what you mean with "not knowing what you're missing when you don't have it." As a result of my MINI, I now wanted heated seats in my other vehicle.

I don't see a retrofit on newministuff. Motoringfile has a PDF for the two-spoke wheel, but not for the three. Looks like it will be similar, though... a LOT of wiring involved.

So apparently my 3 and a half year old MCS (#57 if anyone has forgotten) will need to be broken-in again. The tech told me that I will now have to try the new 2006? version of engine ... (I guess they just didn't know how to build engines in 2003 ).

Good to hear that they're taking care of it for you. Does this mean you're gaining 7 BHP? And your engine bay will be all clean again!

I never thought of the horse power.

But now in 50 years when my car goes up on the stage @ Barrett/Jackson, they will have to announce "Sorry folks but this isn't the original engine".
