where do you buy and install winter tire in Montreal

It seems not many Montreal owners here in Mini2. Just wonder where do you buy and install your winter tires and how much you paid for that?

I don't know if Tirerack.com delivers to Canada, but they offer a great deal on Pirelli Snowcontrol 190's in a nice thin 175/65/15 at about $65 USD a piece.
They will deliver to a qualified installer of your choice.

Check 'em out:

There is no qualified installer in my area . I'd like to use the 16" rim which came with the car and buy a set of run-flats. Just don't know about those fees such as brokerage, custom tax, and shipment. Have anyone here in Canada bought tires from Tirerack.com?

Like this Michiline 195/55/R16 87Q, price is $97.

Yes, I got a set of rims and tires from Tirerack last April. Delivered to my door mounted and balanced on the rims.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

BTW, appreciate your sense of safety as you wear a helmet even when you play video games at home

Say, Faster,Tobias!, what kind of shipping and customs and taxes am I looking at for bringing tires into Canada if I was to order from Tirerack?

The cost difference of Pirelli Euphoris at $200US vs $600CDN makes Tirerack hard to ignore.

I can let you know later this week exactly how much the brokerage/GST is to bring a set into Canada of 175/65TR-15 Pirelli Winter 190 Snowcontrol tires from Tirerack.com

Just ordered them yesterday, 4 tires, no rims. $248US + $75US shipping UPS ground 7-8 days. Exact Shipping cost can be obtained from the Tirerack website when going to checkout.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Update Dec 12-06: Customs duty and GST at border for above.

Duty (7% of tire value for duty $283.14cdn) $ 19.82
GST (6% of total value inc. duty) $ 18.18
Brok fee. UPS $ 59.45
GST on Brok. fee $ 3.57
Total Brokerage & GST $101.02 cdn$

Additional $4.50 COD + 2.7% of brokerage & gst charge if you don't call into UPS as soon as you know its shipped and give them the shipment tracking number and your visa number to prebill the brokerage and gst. I don't know if customs charges Prov. Sales tax for you non Albertians. Phewww, I need a nap now! cheers

I had good experience with Lazer auto in MTL. Don't know if they are still in business, but they used to have good prices and selection at any rate...

I know this is sort of a silly question, but are there any good snow tires that is actually semi decent on dry roads?

I've heard a lot of people being very happy with the Nokians.

I've never run a "winter" tire before so I can't comment on one tire vs another, but I must say that my 16" Nokian Rsi's were well worth the $$.

On dry pavement in hard corners you could describe them as 'squishy' compared to 17" RF's, but isn't that what provides grip when the conditions aren't so good?
