Offline | Merry Christmas from Yorkshire A big Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Yorkshire .I've attached a pic of my Mini, just to prove I have one. It's going in for a service tomorrow and I'm getting a brand new, just registered Cooper Convertible as a loan car .....and i can't wait! It's a shame we have freezing fog etc or the roof would have been down. The residency app is in and Canada has my money, so fingers crossed Have a fun filled holiday time. Kirsty & Nathan x |

Offline | Hey Wanda, I think we may have some things in common, if you need any advice on how to handle the numpties at MacDonald House in London, let me know..... not that I ever managed to get a decent response from them but hey I can tell you what not to do! Basically I'm in Toronto and it took me 2.5 years to get a Cdn visa even though my wife has dual nationality. Incidentally she comes from Yorkshire and I went to Hudds Uni so we know and miss Yorkshire quite a bit. One other thing for you, I know of a good Chippie in Whitby over here so maybe we'll organize a run when you get your papers! So which part of Yorks are you from luv? |

Offline | Hi LFC UK, I'm from the York area but my brother went to Hudds Uni. I looked on the London Immigration website last week and it said it was taking 45 mths for them just to make contact for a perm visa, which I think is ridiculous!!! Go on tell me what I shouldn't do, cos it's probably something I've already thought of.... I'm coming back over in July for 2 weeks to stay in Calgary for the stampede and then Golden for a week...(I gotta do the touristy thing) and I was going to speak to immigration while I'm there. Craig from Crowfoot comes from Donny, so Yorkshire are invading ....best bunch I say! |

Offline | Hi Wanda, What you need to do in order to come to Canada more quickly is to find an employer here who is willing to hire you and bring you over. If you came on a work visa which is valid for a year (sometimes up to 3 years) and is renewed by the company then you can start your residency claim as soon as you get settled. Once you have an employer it takes about 12 - 16 weeks to do a work visa. And there are soooooooo many employers in calgary looking for staff it almost doesn't matter what you do, you can find a job. Cheers, Tem |

Offline | Hi Tem, Thank you for the advice. I did see that I can automatically come over on a temp residency visa for 6 mths then apply to change/alter that to a work permit once I'm there but it would be sensible to come over with a work permit in place. The only problem I have with that is - how do I get an employer to take me on - granted I'm coming back over this July for a holiday but my plan is to come back over in July 2008 with Nath to settle. I suppose I could come over again early 2008 and see if i could get a job, as I'm sure no employer would keep a job offer open for a year. Does anyone need a Yorkshire member of staff to help with the tourists? I'm fully house trained, no criminal convictions, high security cleared, I can do most things!!! I'd even be willing to study etc I've also got my side kick Nathan to consider and I'm not sure if he'll be able to go to school etc.. So much to think about. Have you immigrated Tem? Kirsty |
