Canada Hello Canada mini community!!

Hello all!

Happy New Year!

Wow, all the Canadians are here and my Calgary peeps!! No wonder North American Motoring forum is so quiet!! I guess this is where I should hang out more often!

Just picked up my 2007 mini on Dec 31, 07! Pepper white with black bonet strips, black roof, 6-spped with Premium and Sport package. It's been a riot driving that little thingy. Even though it is not S model, I find the pickup is pretty responsive!

Did anyone try to apply for the green rebate by the government? How should I go about it and did anyone get their $1,000?

Kind regards,

Wing

Welcome to NAM, Wingku.

congrats on your car. Any pictures....that's a requisite.

The Calgary drivers are pretty active on this site. But they're probably out running donuts in the snow right now......

Welcome aboard Wing, and I'm happy to hear you love the car. Information on the eco-rebate can be found at
Transport Canada - Transports Canada

Go into 'programs', and then 'environment' and you should find what you are after. They are mailing out the cheques now, and have been as of about 7 weeks ago.

Happy Motoring!!

Thanks for the Transportation Canada info, greatly appreciated!!

It's good to hear they are finally mailing out the cheques, I've heard people who applied been waiting for ages to receive the rebate!

Hello Wing, and welcome to the boards.

Always good to see more Calgary peeps on here. Hope to see you on some of the runs this year.

And like Beken said, pictures are almost mandatory!

It's been two weeks now and no complain at all but lots of fun.

I must admit, I wasn't a big fan of driving but now having the mini, she makes me want to drive!

I was a little worry about the cargo space but my hockey bag fits and with that, it's all good!

Anyone have a roof rack for their snowboards or bikes? Would you recommend the original mini rack or something 3rd party?

You should come and join us to drive down to AMVIV then.

On the R56, I would definitely go OEM. MINI now niftily (is that a word?) mounts the rack in the rain gutter rail, as opposed to the "drill holes in the roof" system with the 1st gen R53.

Welcome Wingku
The OEM R-56 rack is very solid, and doesn't touch the roof, which is great if you have a black roof as the paint is very soft. I found that the Thule FlatTop 6 or 4 snow board / ski rack just slides right into the slots on the top of the OEM R-56 base rack and matches the alum. finish as well, keeps everything nice and low, and upside down bindings still clear the roof. Same thing with the Mont Blank Barracuda bike rack, just slides into the slots on the base rack and clears the sun roof even when open.
Jeff

Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated!

I'm leaning towards the OEM rack too and then get the bike and snowboard attachments.

Being a rookie in mini, I really want to ask this stupid questions.... what is R53, R56 and these models? What do they represent? So mine is a 2007 Cooper, what is mine??

OK, here goes, in numerical order. I know that I will be corrected if I have made any mistakes, right guys?

1st Generation MINI 2001-2006
R50 MINI Cooper
R52 Convertible
R53 Cooper "S"

2nd Generation MINI 2007-
R55 Clubman
R56 Cooper and "S"
R57 Convertible

Is there a number yet for the SAV? I haven't looked.

So, you own an R56

Big hello to all you Canadians from Scotland.

Was over last summer Calgary-Rockies-Vancouver seeing friends and family.

Had a great time and looking forward to getting across again.

Give us early warning next time you make the trip. Maybe we can arrange a drive or something. Who knows, maybe there could be a drive on every leg of your trip. A different city, a different car club.

Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Will do, you are very lucky, i managed to drive one of the best roads i have ever been on, i wish i was drving the mini or my zx10r instead of a ford hire car.

The road was little fort highway 24 from Little Fort to 100 miles house.

Ah, I've driven that road many times, as my parents had a cottage on Deka Lake, a little north of Bridge Lake. A great drive, but you have to watch for the logging trucks.
