Offline | Your MA should have advised you to the break-in period. On the R53 (pre 2007 MINIs), it was 2,000km of keeping the engine below 4,500 rpm. I believe the current R56 MINI (2007+) is similar. ![]() www.MINICalgary.com |

Offline | And run the engine at a variety of speeds. City driving is perfect, because you have to vary the revs and you are moving up and down the gears. If you head out on the highway do not use the cruise control, but try to move between 5th & 6th gears (it shouldn't hinder you - IIRC in 6th at 4500 rpm you will be well in excess of the posted limit). |

| I'm avin 'oops | When I got mine I kept it very low for the first 1000 miles infact I hadrly went over 3000 revs then took it up to 4500 revs for next 500 miles Just remember the easier on the engine initially means that later on you will reap the benefits ![]() More Air + More Fuel = More Power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Offline | Thanks for all the input, I guess I should be patient and not rev the engine too much just yet. I only have about 600KM so far. ![]() Do you guys find your gas mileage improved after the break-in? |

| MINI2 Senior | My S had 500 miles when i got it 3 weeks ago, it now has 800 miles, i have now started increasing the revs with each run, up to 6k on the rev counter now, the power there is desperate to be used, so used it will be more with each mile... ![]() 1250 miles as in the owners book in my opinion is too long run on these modern engines, long as you take the first 500 miles gradually , up to 4k revs, then increase the revs from then on with each drive. Best driving is town and roads were u increase and decrease speed, not to sit on a motorway at 70 mph.. In the end though its up to you mate its your car. ![]() |

Offline | Thanks for all the input, guys! Filled my tank the first time last night after the computer said I have 40KM left in the tank. $58CDN for a tank of premium. I was stunt it costed that much , but then I started the mini and the computer said the range for this tank is 850KM, whew..... now let's see if the computer is right. ![]() But then of course, it all depends on how one drives, given that I'm still in the break-in period, I should try to remain a good boy. ![]() |

Offline | I thought that only the "S" needed premium fuel, and the Coopers used regular? Or has that changed on the R56? FWIW, my mileage improved after 4K, and then again after I broke around 10K.. ![]() ![]() www.MINICalgary.com |

| 05 MCS BEP | Both the MINI Cooper and Cooper S drink the expensive stuff. Even the R53. You will probably find that as your car breaks in, the engine will loosen up. Your gas mileage will improve and you will get a subtle difference in performance...aka, the engine might feel happier to rev into the nether regions. Those of us who have had our cars awhile all know how tough it is because our cars beg to be flogged, but a little self-control over the first month or two should do the trick. Speaking of begging to be flogged, I had my car in for brake pads the other day and I had a Cooper Auto without sport button as a courtesy car for the day. My impression of the base R56 Cooper is at normal city driving speeds, it's nothing special. If you're being careful, it feels similar to maybe a Mazda 3 or a Honda Civic. However, once on the highway or into the bends, and deciding to see what this beast could do, it was brilliant. Again, you need to flog the car to get the best out of it. Wish you all the best in your wait. 05MCS BEP - Alta 22mm rear anti-swaybar, Madness CAI, Alta 15%, NGK BRK7EIX |
