| Loves the Fuzzy One | Found it! From the State Dept web page: CANADA - Passport or proof of U.S. citizenship and photo ID required. Minors (under 16) traveling alone or in someone else's custody, must present written authorization, signed before a notary, from the parent(s) or guardian. Visas are not required for visitors staying up to 180 days. Anyone with a criminal record (including a DWI charge) should contact the Canadian Embassy or nearest Consulate General before travel. U.S. citizens entering Canada from a third country must have a valid passport. For student or business travel, check with the Canadian Embassy, 501 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001 (202/682-1740) or nearest Consulate General: CA (213/346-2701), MI (313/567-2085), NY (212/596-1700 or 716/858-9501), or WA (206/443-1375). Internet: http://www.canadianembassy.org So no passport needed if you enter from the US. Now as for getting back into the US: PASSPORTS: U.S. citizens who travel to a country where a valid passport is not required will need documentary evidence of their U.S. citizenship and identity. Proof of U.S. citizenship includes an expired U.S. passport, a certified (original) birth certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, or Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States. To prove identity, a valid driver's license or government identification card are acceptable provided they identify you by physical description or photograph. However, for travel overseas and to facilitate reentry into the U.S., a valid U.S. passport is the best documentation available and unquestionably proves your U.S. citizenship. Here's the link. ![]() Global Moderator |

Offline | April I surely do not want to discourge anyone from attending what most certainly will be great time, just because they don't have a passport. MME2003 is still 6+ months away, plenty of time to get one. As for me, I would rather take a passport as opposed to my original birth certificate. paddy ![]() "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail..." -- President George W. Offline | Personal ID takes up very little space... I don't mean to discourage anyone from bringing all of the documentation that'll fit in the MINI's glovebox...but by personal experience...thirteen times since 1990...the only thing that I have placed into the hands of a customs officer (Canadian and US) has been my drivers license and only a few times. That includes post-9/11... Just leave the fireworks and firearms at home, and keep the the alcohol and tobacco at the limits allowed. Believe me, the Canadians WANT you to visit (spend money) and the US wants you back. It's not Iraq folks, they are damn friendly people and glad to have you! ENJOY! ![]() |

Offline | Just had to move it out of the dungeon and back into the light. May be this will generate a little more interest. "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail..." -- President George W. Bush - Sept. 20, 2001 |
