| MINI2 Master | Not confirmed but I hope so. Just the other day my wife was saying how our son would enjoy a ferry ride. She was thinking more of the Chicheemaun than the Wolfe Islander III but perhaps we can visit both islands this summer. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! | Now With More Cowbell | All this talk of Wolfe Island brings me back to the summer of (if I recall correctly) 1987. Bear with me if this is a little off topic, I'm reminiscing. ![]() My Wolfe Island story: My father had purchased an RV with one of his brothers. It was a Ford Econoline conversion with two berths above the cabin, two where the "kitchen" table was (it folded away) and two in the back. Into this contraption we stuffed seven people (my mother is nothing if not fecund!) ![]() So one summer we're trekking about Ontario and come to the Wolfe Island ferry. Even though we had a good space in line, the ferry crew let other cars on first and loaded our camper on last. Unfortunately they misjudged the amount ot clearance left, so the back end of the RV stuck out several feet past the end of the boat. Undeterred, the crew tried to raise the ramp, only to find that it wouldn't go up more than fifteen degrees before whacking the tailpipe of the camper. In a fit of questionable intelligence they elected to chock the rear wheels (which were probably less than 2 feet from the edge of the boat) with a pair of wedges that had been cut from a 2x4, and left the ramp to swing down into the water. My father was skeptical of the arrangement, but the staff assured him it was safe. With that, the boat left the dock. The waters were not particularly calm that day. We were all a tad nervous about the rolling of the ship and the waves splashing up onto the deck. Two minutes into the trip, a fellow passenger ambled up to the driver's side window and rapped on it. My father rolled it down. In a very matter-of-fact voice, the fellow informed him that both of the chocks had been washed away by the waves. With that, my mother starts shreiking, flings open the door and starts screaming at the five of us (three of whom were under the age of 10) to get out, get out, get out! We didn't need much more prompting than that. ![]() Anyways, long story short, the RV's brakes held, the camper stayed on board, and we docked safely, albeit with frazzled nerves. My mother yelled at the crew, my father looked embarrassed, and we were treated to ice cream not long thereafter. The End. -CW Global Moderator |

Offline | Dealer Involvement Update: Still waiting for word from BMW Canada. I'm still hopeful, and it's early in the game. However, it appears as if local Toronto area dealers will get involved, spearheaded by MINI Downtown. More next week. Notices to all on the official rygold@MINIac.ca email list next week. |

Offline | Event Planning Planning on this event may seem to have gotten quiet, but a lot has happened. The deposit has been paid to Shannonville to secure the track. I've made a proposal to the Toronto Area MINI Dealers. I'm now waiting to hear their level of involvement, and that of BMW Canada. The accomodation, facilities and event stuff on Wolfe Island and in Kingston at the HoJo (including the barbeque and Comedy Club) have all been confirmed. I'm just waiting for the input from the MINI dealers before I do the formal announcement to our mailing list, with all details and pricing. Watch this space, and your email for the next update. It's soon! The Wolfe Island Canada MINI Meet will ROCK! Join the list at rygold@MINIac.ca |

Offline | Participants Update (This email went to to the event list. Join by requesting - email rygold@MINIac.ca) You are just days away from receiving your OFFICIAL announcement of the Inaugural Wolfe Island Canada MINI Meet! This thing is turning out amazing! Lots of great stuff, ending with a full day at Shannonville Motorsport Park. We are restricting the event to only 50 MINIs. Shannonville rules say no more than 12 cars on the track at the same time, so there will be plenty of laps for everyone. This will be the largest MINI Meet in Canada. Based on the early interest and excitement from people on our email list, this is the Beta! Next year we'll aim for 125 cars and take a larger track. Maybe two! MINIacs are expected from Boston, Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo, Syracuse, Cleveland and Toronto. (Where's Montreal you ask? I dunno - maybe they don't like to drive!!) The local Boot 'n Bonnet Club and the Wolfe Island Business & Tourism Association are welcoming us to the Island with a special brand of hospitality. You will have a great time! There's much more to come.............. =R= rygold@MINIac.ca My Track Car! Event Site Launching Soon ==>MINImeet.ca |

| MINI2 Master | It all looks good. Now we just need to decide do we bring our young son which likely means missing the comedy club, or do we see if the grandparents would like to have him for a weekend...
