I believe it's coded in the ECU for Canadian market cars, so I doubt it's possible. I've read elsewhere that it hasn't been possible to code the DRLs off in Canadian cars, which would be required for those wishing to use the Mini retrofit LED DRLs.
What year is your car? In some years, MINI went cheap and just turned on your lights all the time. That means even your taillights and side marker lights are permanently on whenever your engine is running.
Canadian law makes it illegal (for licensed mechanics) to deactivate the daytime running lights.
mine is 2013, which was exactly the same as what you said. all lights were on whenever i started the engine. however, i have them recoded and turned off.
i just found a guy from kijiji website. he also activated "close window using remote", "one touch open/close sunroof", and "high beam and fog light on at the same time" which are removed in Canada.
nice, how much did the guy charge for the coding? are they any other options we get for the coding? I'm in tdot too and I recently purchased a 2014 MCS 6spd, can't wait to pick it up next week.
I recently heard a new term for being able to have your MINI run without any lights on whatsoever.
It's called "Batman mode" ::wink::
