Offline | I remember getting a bmw 320 for a loaner once and a honda civic the other time. I don't really like having to pay money for a rental car. If something on the car needs to be fixed under warranty shouldn't the rental fee be covered as well? Hey, they could have given you a full sized chevy van or something. how crazy would that feel. Its like driving a house from the comfort of your lazyboy. Holy Monkey! Indy Blue Cooper / White roof, wheels / Sport Package / Sunroof |

| MINI2 Master | Rentals are paid for so it isn't any money out of my pocket. They called to say the car is fixed -- I will pick it up soon... just have to give them time to wash it. I hope replacing the door actuator has done it this time. What did you think of the 320? A guy down the street from me has one. Looks like he drives it conservatively. Offline | It was alright. Had alright power but it just felt really boring compared to our minis. I find driving any regular car very strange now. I find the windsheilds are so close to my face now. anyone else find that? My dealer actually charged my credit card for my rental!! Plus they charged me for washer fluid which i had a full jug of my own in the trunk and the didn't give me the jug either!! They just topped the tanks up and charged me 5 bucks!! WTF!! Holy Monkey! | MINI2 Master | You need a new dealer. I agree that other cars feel strange. The windshield is strange, as it the seating position where I feel like I'm driving a bus in other cars now (especially this Windstar, it even sounds like a bus!). If I took a corner in this van at MINI speeds I'd be on my roof, pronto! Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! | Let's Motor. | I suggest Mini Woodbridge, nicest bunch of people you'll even meet. The head service/parts manager is really nice, his name is Chris Borba. I find I always leave there with a smile on my face. Paul will be able to back me up on this one too, isn't that right Paul? ![]() |

| Now With More Cowbell | With regards to driving "loaner" cars... I had the dubious pleasure of driving an Acura 1.7EL for two days this week. My god, what a bland car. Moving the shifter requires about as much work as swishing a stick of celery around in your Bloody Mary. The car floats and understeers like a hovercraft. The steering feel itself is lighter than light, and alarmingly devoid of any feedback. Now I know what people mean when they say a car "handles like a video game". And you sit on the seats rather than in them. I owned three Honda products before (a Civic CX, Civic SiR and RSX Type-S), but none of them were anywhere near as dull as this thing. It makes me appreciate my MCS even more. -CW Global Moderator |

| Let's Motor. | When I had my trunk latch being repaired at Mini Woodbridge, they had to order the latch from Germany, so I was given a 'loaner' car until my car was done. Surprisinly they gave me a Mini Cooper, and it only had about 1000 clicks, I was really amazed, I got to appreciate the amount of fun you could have in a Cooper, it really is a great car. I missed it when I had to give it back, but it made me look forward to getting my S back! ![]() |

Offline | Latch repair What was the repair on your trunk latch? I had a few situations this winter where the secondary latch position wouldn't engage when it was really cold out. It p***ed me off when it happened, and I've vowed to put silicone lube on the latch and drivers inside doorhandle too before next winter. You feel really silly having to lower the window and open the door from the outside on a brand new car! Steve 2002 Pure Silver and Black Cooper |

| Let's Motor. | Latch repair... Its quite funny, one day, while driving my brother, 2 friends and myself to soccer, the trunk decided it didn't want to open once we arrived, embarrased, I just shrugged the idea of something being wrong and just got them out by folding the backseats and getting it through there. After multiple calls to the dealer, and not being able to figure out what was wrong on the phone, I brought it to Mini Woodbrige where I was told the latch was defective and they needed to replace the latch, however, since the latch was on back-order, they had to order it from Germany. This happened out of the blue, my latch stopped working out of nowhere. However, I did notice some weird behaviour of my latch before this event. Whenever I would open my latch, it would make a weird noise, like a big flickering noise, it was quite loud. I even tried pushing the button a few times while the trunk was open and it still made the weird noise. Often, when I would try and close it, it would just bounce off the bottom part of the latch and not close properly, I was really worried, luckily, in the end it all got replaced and now is working fine, no bugs, no problems, even closes smoother now! ![]() |

Offline | Re: Latch Repair I think the 'flickering' noise can be explained...was it the same noise you hear if you hold to handle in to open the trunk, but don't actually open the liftgate? I was told this when I picked up my car, since it's an electric handle, it will keep trying to cycle the mechanism if you don't actually open the door. I also read in here somewhere while I had my problem, if it gets stuck during the winter, to intentionally make it cycle like this to free up the mechanism. Of course, all this should stop when you actually have the liftgate open. I also found out the workings of the front door mechanism the hard way. One winter day, when there was ice on the car, I opened the door, and ice got jammed inbetween the moveable and non-moveable parts of the handle. Well, it was jammed in far enough that it was beyond the switch portion that opens the door. Therefore, after the door was closed, I couldn't open it from the outside again. Out came the hairdryer and I melted the piece of ice out and the door worked fine. I guess with a little piece of something, you could turn this into an anti-theft feature. ![]() Steve 2002 Pure Silver and Black Cooper |

| Let's Motor. | The flicking noise did indeed bother me, but it even happened when the trunk was open. Everyone always stared when I opened the trunk in a parking lot or something. I'm just glad its all fixed now. These Canadian winters can be harsh on our Minis, I'm going to have to drive it in the winter next year as I need to go to university and back mostly everyday. |

| MINI2 Master | Well, what do you know. Fisichella was awarded the win for the Brazilian Grand Prix so the Cosworth Ford powered Jordan was the winner. I'll ask BWM to rent me a free car during the next race in case I'm a good luck charm ![]() BMW really needs to get their act together! I'm glad that Ford and Renault are doing so well but it is becoming embarrassing. At least we can take some Daimler pride in our engine ![]() Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! | MINI2 Senior Derelict | Re: Latch repair... I had the exact same problem. Mine wouldn't close. I ended up having to tie my hatch closed and go to the dealer. They got it to close but suggested I not open it until the parts come in, around 5 days or so. They offered a loaner if that was inconvienient. Paul |
