How about a convoy to the DVD release of The Italian Job?

MINImeet has been offered a unique oppportunity. Convoy from Yonge & York Mills (Jolly Miller parking lot), Toronto, south to Yonge & Adelaide where a MINI will be sitting loaded with Italian Job DVDs, and other stuff.

The date for the convoy is Tuesday October 7th. We'll need to gather around 11 a.m. or so for an arrival at Bank Intessa at 12.15 p.m.

Paramount is holding a "Guess How Much Stuff Is In The MINI Contest" and they want us to be the parade to the site where the contest will take place.

Parking at Yonge & Adelaide is being arranged for us, and we'll all get copies of the Italian Job DVD.

BONUS: The organizers of the event will try and get an aerial photo of our convoy. We'll be in the papers, AGAIN!

If you're interested let me know directly by email to robert@MINImeet.ca. Just put in the subject "I'm In The Italian Job Convoy" and I'll send all the details to you as they develop.

The organizers need 12+ MINIs to make this work. I think we can get a few more!

FYI - we've uploaded both the Whig Standard and Watertown Daily Times front page coverage of our Sept. 13/14 MINImeet to MINImeet.ca . Lot's of us were quoted. See your name in print!

24 hours after announcing the Italian Job Convoy in Toronto, and we have 20 MINIs and counting...!

BONUS: As you know, if you're on this convoy you will receive a copy of the Italian Job DVD. What you didn't know is that not only do you get the new version of the movie, but, guess what? The studio is re-releasing the original Michael Caine version the same day. We get both!

And get this: Global TV is going to cover the convoy with a helicopter. Lot's of TV etc. coverage. We're each getting an Italian Job vinyl logo thing for the roof of our MINIs. That's for the TV coverage!

The studio is also attempting to organize a police escort.

This is getting better all the time!

Hey I work close by! But too bad I can't drive that day (do you realize how much parkin gcosts downtown?? I'll take a peek at the meet and maybe I can get the DVD too?

I have to show up at 8am for work (I don't even want to imagine how traffic will be!) and besides, I only get a half hour for lunch

But I'll try to show up at the event (with my Mini there in spirit). Maybe I can show my car insurance pink slip?

But is it going to be held at Intessa Bank or is the convoy starting from there?

We're commencing at the TTC/Jolly Miller parking lot, Yonge St., South of York Mills. The convoy proceeds S on Yonge, and ends at the Bank.

Everyone who registered to participate received detailed instructions.

The DVD http://MINImeet.ca Convoy is tomorrow. We've got over 40 MINIs registered to participate. MINIs are coming to Toronto from Buffalo, Detroit and every place from there to here!

8 kilometer (5 mile) Convoy south on Toronto's main drag, Yonge Street, and then back north again.

3 motorcycle cop escort. Helicopter TV coverage. Lots of local media alerted to the Convoy. Photo ops aplenty! DVD gifts to the MINIs.

Noon tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 7th. Good things MINIs have flex hours!

Well, I left my workplace (about a 5 minute walk from the area) at 12:15 and waited and waited and waited and waited (30 mins) and saw nothing

Wether I was too late, too early, or maybe it's the wrong day?

I saw a few tv crews (Cable Pulse and Toronto 1) and followed them but still nothing. On my way, I saw a helicopter. But I don't know if it was Global's

I guess I'll try to catch it on the news tonight

it was loads of fun... unfortunately a lot of traffic and construction

It was neat to convoy down Yonge St escorted by 3 motorcyle cops with lights and sirens stopping traffic and letting us all motor through red lights.
We started the convoy with 37 MINIs and ended with 39 - got to watch these guys.

We went all the way down to Adalaide and did a couple of laps of the downtown until the cops herded us all back into one line and the went all the way back to York Mills.

P!ssed a few people off along the way but most smiled and waved - after lifting their jaws of the sidewalk.

Our 40 MINI count controlled Toronto's main drag for 1.5 hours.
