Canada Ontario Insurance Rate

Hi all Canadian members,

Newbie here, got a couple questions on MCS. I've test driven a pre-owned 03 today and the clutch friction point seems a bit low. Just wondering is the friction point of the clutch going higher or lower as it gains mileage? Wanna make sure if the clutch is still good or not. Another important question is how much insurance are you guys paying in Ontario? Don't know if the insurance is killing expensive or not.

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice.

im speaking from the young age group in ontario (18-20), and im paying hell to drive this car, although my broker told me it'd be the same if i drove a civic or a lamboghini... im paying 7600 large to my insurance for full coverage, i'd expect that number drop a little if im on base coverage......not a pretty bill!

i heard good things from TD insurance, although i have not tried them.

remember this, age group, and those stars on your license do indicate what class you are in. also is your registered address... an address in toronto would yield a much higher insurance than say someone with an address from waterloo

good luck!

ontario car insurance rates are outrageous, particularly for young people. my 18 year old daughter was $3800/yr for a new hyundai accent, and then they cranked it up to $5800. just ridiculous.

anyway, are there any older male drivers, say age 50+, good driving record, driving a cooper S in toronto? i'm interested in the going rate for car insurance too. thx.

I'm 26 and was given two separate quotes by different brokers: $2800 and $1800, both at $500 deductibles. Can you guess which one I went with? heh

If I am you I will definitely go for the one which asked for $2,800. j/k
So which company is it? My claim history is clean but got a couple tickets in the past 3 yrs. Gonna get the car very soon so don't have much time to shop around for insurance.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate your help.

The insurence rate in Ontario seems to be done by a star system.
you get 1 star for every year you have had your full G licence as I have been told
1 star for being over 25
beyond that I would assume there is a star for being married as well as something for Multi car, as they ask these questions when getting insurence. It apperes to me that each star is worth about $500 (as CDN JCW was quoted as a 4 star on the $2800 and as a 6 star on the $1800) but this is just a hypothesis. Now all that said I can't rememebr who the broker is............... but I know its with Pilot insurence company. I will make a note to her to post.

Canada How much are you paying, Disco?

Hi Disco,

Have you got a quote for your insurance yet? I am in a similar dilenma as you, got a couple of tickets in the past 3 years, I am fighting the last one now. My insurance will be renewed in July, keeping my finger crossed!

Thanks.

I haven't got a chance to walk in to any broker to get quotes but I went to TD Meloche Monnex (http://www.melochemonnex.com/en/home) online and got a quote of around $3000, TD Insurance should be able to match this quote but they need you to call them, somehow they need your driver license number in order to provide a quote over the phone. Anyway I will keep you posted.

I've used Kanetix.ca several times, each time changing the fields with respect to years driven, model trim, etc. I've gone as high as $8600 for a Cooper, to over $10K for a VW GTI. Oh my... my legs went numb...

It really looks like I'll have to wait until I'm 26 or 27 to buy my first car. Now mind you, I'l probably ask my Father to buy it and assume ownership, so the rates will hopefully be $3K as a secondary driver.

I even changed things to a $0 deductible, no collision damage, bare-bones minimum. Get this: a 4 door Toyota Corolla wasn't much cheaper than the Cooper. It was still around $7800. I knew I should have listened to my Mom and Dad and got my license at 16 years of age.
