Canada Rally style lights

Hey everyone,
Sorry if this has already been covered, i searched but couldn't find an answer.
I've seen the rally style lights on a number of coopers and they look awesome, but i was wondering if they are legal to use in canada, and if so in what situations(i.e. only when high beams would be allowed). I'd love to get a pair for my car but if i can never use them i don't think i'd bother...thanks!

You mean the extra set of driving lamps like in the Italian Job? Well, they're a dealer installable option so they're legal though I'm not sure if they can only be used as high beams

Cheers.

I have a set on my S. They're wired so they can only be activated when high beams are on. There's a led-illuminated button attached on the dash near the steering wheel that turns them on. When this happens, if you go back to normal beams, they will shut off automatically. Also you can't have both fog lights and rally lights on at the same time (not sure how the fogs behave without the rally lights, maybe they stay on in high beam mode).

I like the looks but wouldn't recommend them to anyone. In almost a year I NEVER used them. I guess it depends, if you drive on country back roads then you may have a chance to use them. If you're like most cooper owners and live in an urban area I'd say don't get them.

Thanks for the advice! I think you're right, aside from looks they will be useless as i live in downtown Toronto and only go outside of the city a couple times a month.

Dirving and foul weather lights (much different) are available from a number of different sources such as Hella and PIAA. (Hella.com and PIAA.com) I believe that the foul weather lights may be used at any time as long as they are properly aimed, and the driving lights may only be used when high beams are appropriate.

I have factory foul weather (fog) lights and they turn off when you filp to high beam.

Cheers

I'm glad to know you're a considerate MINI driver. A couple of weeks ago, in Vancouver, it was extremely foggy. An on coming MINI driver had all his lights on and was blinding everybody in site. I don't even know how he could have seen through all those lights in the fog. Definitely, they look cool but are kind of useless unless you are on a dark lonely highway a lot.
