Cracked windshield advice needed

I was driving south on the 400 when I heard a crack, and just my luck, a little crack had appeared on the windshield. It was probably from the truck 5 or 6 cars ahead.

That's life, I can deal with it. What should I do? Contact Mini? Go to Apple Auto Glass and repair it? Claiming it is not an option. I can afford the cost, even if it's a full replacement, but I'd prefer to patch it up at this point.

I can't feel any breakage on the glass. It's small, maybe the tip of an average person's pinkie finger. It's smooth, no rough layers or anything.

Is this fixable at Apple orActive Green and Ross?

Any ideas how much it may cost? Thanks.

United-States In the states

Insurance companies will patch the windshield - even if a high deductable for a very small payment. I think I paid $20 with a $1000 deductible... because it is a safety issue.... See my post over on NorthAmericanMotoring.com

Just go to any auto glass shop and have them look at it. Usually if the crack is just one line and not too long (ie. less than a few inches), they can fix it by drilling a small hole at the tip of the crack to relief the stress and back fill the crack with epoxy. It's not that expensive of a fix, something like $20-30, depend on the place, much better than spending on a new windshield that may or may not be put on correctly.

I've got a 4 inch crack at the base of the windshield on my S4 for well over a year, it hasn't grown since. But I'd advice you to go get it fixed ASAP before it starts to spread.

Oh absolutely! Safety is paramount with me. That's why I got the DSC III as well. I should have opted for the LSD, but anyway...

Edit: I have some pictures at a temporary location. It may not be very clear, but this was the best I could get at the time.... I know it says Wonderland, but the focus has changed due to this incident.

I'll get it checked with Apple Auto Glass on Wednesday morning.

Sorry to hear about your windshield. I really hate those trucks. They have been responsible for the windshield in my other cars cracking at least 4 times. What a pain in the ****. Anyway, from the picture, it looks like the folks at Apple should be able to fix that right up. They often have trouble with really fine chips, but a medium chip is great for the epoxy to stick to.

P.S. That's a nice looking MCS you have there!

Thanks Lanfear! You've been there for me since the delivery process started winding down.

I'm stealing this from a HUMMER site, but I'm going to try to take a picture of my MCSa beside any other MINI I see... the possiblities are endless! Their purpose was to relate the size of the H3 baby HUMMER to other SUVs, but my aim is just for fun.

Whaddya think?

That sounds great! When I get a proper digital camera (other than my cell phone for which I don't even have a data cable yet), I'd love to help you out if you don't mind. I'd also park beside fake MINIs too though. Like the dark blue Miata with white stripes I saw at The Keg this afternoon.

I love that H3 vs. MINI picture. Well, the one I saw featured both vehicles in yellow. The MINI was blown up to be larger than the H3, with the H3 under the front tire of the MINI. Squish!
