DIY automatic (CVT) transmission problem, Help!

Hello, I just bought used MC 2001automatic transmission, European version in Moscow, Russia. Originally car is from Arab Emirats.
It seems that the car only goes in Sports mode, RPM go to 4000- 5200 on shift points,
most of the time around 5000, also taking car to a full stop gives a bump for a second or a few seconds, seems like in transmission...
even if I brake to a low speed, RPM stay the same.
I have fun with it, obviously it's high on gas...
Moving trans. lever to the right does nothing... same mode...steptronic doesn't work..

Is it the problem of transmission or electronic block that controls transmission???

I took the car to authorized dealer and they said that trans. needs to be replaced...

Sad...but is it true... I hope it's just electronics...I am taking it to another dealer tomorrow...but it seems that no one knows Mini's here in Moscow...
Anyone had same problem??? I Really appreciate any info on that matter..
regards, Oleg kalyan.

Threads http://www.mini2.com/forum/cvt-automatic/103799-cvt-transmission-failure.html and http://www.mini2.com/forum/cvt-automatic/105373-2005-cvt-rpm-dip-braking-standstill.html in this forum also report CVT problems. I don't know whether either are similar to yours? I suggest you have a good search here to see if anyone has found something similar going on

Welcome to MINI2 by the way

Here is update, the dealer went through setting up the transmissionfrom scratch, hooking up a computer, going through a 10 cycle N to D and then 10 cycloe N to R then couple of more procedures, then we went for a drive raising speed to about 60 MPH, and dropping acceletator so that the car go to a 0. We went through that cycle 3 times, every cycle takes about 15 minutes. Indicator went from XD to ED, don't know what it means, it should go to a D. Went to a garage, zeroed all the settings and went through procedure again.
Same result. I had to take the car, already spent half a day, have another appointlment on Tuesday, when main engineer be back from vacation... we'll see..
anyone knows what XD and ED means ??? THanks.

I think those are codes produced during CVT set up and they are to indicate that the mechanic is to perform specific activities when they are displayed. You or your mechanic should read this post about the CVT: http://www.mini2.com/forum/cvt-automatic/59506-zf-ecotronic-vt1f-automatic-gearbox-description.html "ZF ecoTronic VT1F Automatic Gearbox Description"

In fact, I recommend you read through all the "sticky" threads at the top of the " CVT (Cooper and One) & Cooper S Auto" forum. You can learn a great deal in a short time from them. Best wishes.
