2002 Mini Cooper bad CVT

I am near purchasing a 2002 MC with a bad CVT according to the owner. It has high mileage and appears to be in great shape. The price is right. I am planning to fix and drive, My options include replacing he CVT with a reman or used, or refitting a manual transmission.

I'm soliciting recommendations from experience. Has anyone done a cvt to manual conversion? If so, is there a list of parts available?

Is a used CVT a bad idea? I've located some questionable CVT's. The dealer wants more than 5000$ for the transmission, and claims it needs 120 liters of fluid - Is this true?

I'm open to any ideas. I hope to blog the process.

About a year ago or so, someone wrote that they knew of someone named Robert who had changed their CVT to a manual, but did not provide any details. Before they did the swap, they had upgraded their MINI's engine performance substantially, with cam, head, larger valves, intake, header, exhaust, using a shop in Texas. He upgraded the performance to about that of an MCS.

I think a used CVT can be a good thing, especially if you get a good price. However, labor can be a lot, so that will be a factor in overall costs. That doesn't sound right that the CVT holds 120 liters, as I would think maybe they meant 12 liters, but I don't know.

Good luck!
