Fuel Consumption CVT with Optimax

I averaged about 32mpg on my first CVT. My second car which drives so incredibly better than the first got 31mpg first fill-up with unleaded and second fill up with Optimax got 37mpg with a lot of city driving but revs below 3000rpm and done 550 miles.

This seems really good and the Optimax makes it drive well.

Anyone else noticed an improvement.

James

James: what's Optimax? An additive available in the UK?

And why did you get a second car--did you find out why your first CVT was not good? I have ordered a CVT and it would be useful to know what to look for.

Hey Mate,

Optimax is the highest Octane petrol on sale in the UK at 100 Octane. Although I have a second MINI it was due to problems nothing to do with the CVT. Although saying that the CVT box on the second one is much improved. I literally got one of the first production CVTs last November so they have obviously made some significant improvementts in the last months including removing some jerkiness from town driving. It is significantly improved and you will really enjoy the gearbox. But I stress that these are improvements and not problems I don't want to worry you.

It sounds like the mini likes octane. I have an S 6 speed on order due in October/November and a pump down the street sells 103 Octane! Dose your mini run any warmer with the 100 Octane? Here in the states average premium is 92 Octane. What is the average in the UK?

Normal petrol is 95ron, super is 98ron and Optimax is somewhere between 99-100ron.
The higher octaine petrol doesn't effect engine temperature that I've noticed, but it definately affects exhaust note. It's so much richer and deeper sounding now

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

I just found out I can get Optimax locally at 74.9p a gallons that's nearly cheap as regular unleaded!
