CVT question

Hi. I'm a brand new mini owner I have an automatic mini cooper . It's weird when you're going at slow speeds it's really hurky jerky. I don't get it, is there anything I can do about it? And if not. why does it do that?

You might try reading this thread: http://www.mini2.com/forum/cvt-coope...ighlight=jerky and see if you find your questions answered within.

Mine only does it very slightly if I am going VERY slowly and the car is cold...either that or I've gotten used to it.

Thanks for your reply. I've only had my mini since friday so I'm still figuring everything out. I realized I don't really hardly have put put my foot on the gas when it's going really slow . I guess your foot really gets sensitive to what the car likes & doesn't. Thanks again!

Welcome to M2 nola

As an ex-CVT owner i think i had the same problem with my car when i first got it. It can be a cold start problem. If u get too paraoid just take it back to the dealers and see if it is the latest software on the car.

yoyo effect at low speeds.

The dealer may upgrade the software which may help the jerking at low speeds ,but it is normal for cvt minis and you get used to it and after a while you seem to control it as you get used to the feel of your car.

Nola, is your MINI an '06? Since my last post to you, I am now driving an '06 CVT and thus far, at about 500 miles, I have not had one single "hurky jerky" moment - it's a very different driving experience - much smoother and no hesitations from a stop, either.

My 02 was a little jerky, but the software upgrade helped. Funny thing, though, my wife still swears that our classic Mini with a four-speed manual is less jerky than the MINI Cooper CVT. Well, I guess when you have a 0-60 time of something like 20 minutes, it's bound not to feel too jerky!

Cheers!
