Offline | Thanks. So then does that mean that if it takes you say 11 seconds to reach 1/8 of mile it actually took your car 10.5 seconds (assuming a perfect launch)? |

Offline | Okay, I'm going to post this story as a cautionary tale to other CVT drivers although I'm sure none of you are as lame as I apparently am. Driving on I-5 today (two lanes) and I get stuck in the slow lane behind a real dawdler and next to a big rig. Not the most comfortable place to be in any car, let alone a MINI. Finally the guy ahead of me pulls enough ahead of the truck for me to slip into the fast lane ahead of the truck and pass the car in front of me. As I get in the fast lane I am not cutting the truck off by any means, but I am a little closer than I might normally be. I reach over to flick the gear shift to the right into Sports Drive and then push it forward into a lower gear for a bit more power/speed so I can get out of the truck's way. Except for one thing, I forget to flick to the right into SD and instead just pushed it forward into neutral. Neutral at 70 mph ten feet in front of a big rig! Nice little adrenaline rush that. Fortunately, I reflexively pulled back into drive and floored it away from the truck, who I believe was kind enough to slow and not slam me down the freeway. I know, pretty stupid, and I'm more than a little embarrassed to be admitting it, but on the off chance one of you folks out there might have my absent minded streak I though I'd pass this little warning along. Always go right before forward! |

Offline | _________________ Downshifting may save some wear and tear on your brakes, but a lot of shifting can also increase wear and tear on your clutch, and your clutch is much more expensive to repair/replace than replacing brake pads. |

Offline | And are probably five times as expensive to repair ![]() Actually that brings up a good point, anyone know anything about maintenance/repair costs for a CVT compared to manual or standard auto? I would hope that maintenance and reliability-wise it's as good or better than either of the other two, but I have a feeling that if something does happen to it, it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get serviced...
