paddles on US CVT?

I'm considering a 2008 MC convertible with a CVT. The configurator at miniusa.com indicates the CVT comes with paddles shifters. I thought the paddles shifters didn't come on the US model -- just a Euro-only thing.

Has this changed? Do US spec CVTs come with paddle shifters now?

thanks,
jay

The '07 MCSa I test drove here in Seattle had paddles, and as far as I know all of R56's have dropped the CVT and moved on to a move conventional six-speed auto. 07 convertibles are still based on the R53 and include the CVT as far as I know, so perhaps that's where the confusion comes in to play?

From MiniUSA

Since no one seems to know for sure (or care enough about CVTs to post), I emailed MINIUSA and got this response:

Yes indeed! The MINI CVT (Continuously Variable auto Transmission) with F1-style steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters and Steptronic mode that lets you choose between fully automatic shifting or clutchless manual driving is available as an option for the 2008 MINI Cooper Convertible.

So woo-hoo! 08 convertibles with CVT get paddle shifters!

Thanks! That was a good idea, going to the source.
