Elctrc109: You are getting to the nub of the issue here. What is your trick to overcome the first 20 mph inhibition?

Do you have a Driving Technique sorted out for this launch situation?

The official figures for the CVT (from the MINI2 technical section) are:
Acceleration (CVT only):
0-62mph (s): 10.4
Top speed (CVT only): 115mph
So 0-60 mph should be very close to 10 seconds.

The only way I've been able to have a fast feeling start with my CVT has been while rolling at about 5 mph and punching the accelerator. I'm wondering if a 50 shot of nitrous will liven things up? With all the computer controlling I'd probably get nothing but problems.

A friend of mine gave me his stock Cooper S exhaust, which is due to go on in December when I buy an intake (and when I hit 30k miles). These items should help out, but there's no replacement for an aftermarket exhaust.

I've looked at a dyno chart, and there isn't a serious power spike 'till about 3700 RPM. The only thing that will overcome that issue is a nice spray of laughing gas up my MINI's snout.

Now to my understanding, torque is more important in acceleration than horsepower (horsepower is related to speed rather than acceleration), and there isn't much of that 'till 4000 RPM.

The issue here is that we can't loose traction in order to get our revs up to our ever-so-important torque curve.

I feel that we're barking up the wrong tree when we think the computer programming effects our acceleration. Small engines are inherently high revving engines. Some cars have a nice amount of low-end torque, but our MINIs low-end torque band is not very impressive. I'll call the guys at Rspeed and see if they've installed their exhaust system on a CVT before.

Why don't you give the guys at Diamond Racing Group a call?

They are currently developing mods exclusively for the Cooper CVT (They have 2 in their test car fleet).
