Do you still like your CVT despite of reported problems?

I read here in this board as well as in Roadfly.org regarding the problems of the CVT transmission. Today 1 owner wrote at Roadfly.org having his CVT transmission change after only 8,100 miles.I think 1 owner here have similar scenario but had 10,000 on it when the transmission fails & had to be change.

Seems worrisome to have this kind of transmission.

Cooper CVT

Enjoy it, Use it.

There have been issues, but they are being worked out. Make sure you get software Revision 32.1 (CD 32, Revision 1) if you haven't already done so.

This combination (heavy computerr control of an "automatic" transmission) is an early example of what most cars will be like in just a few years. The MINI's handling makes this one of the best cars for driving, Oops, Motoring!

The CVT is really quite good at the medium speed stuff. Try using Sport Drive (SD) through a series of corners to prove it out.

The Third Time

My CVT will go to the dealer to install the latest version CD FOR THE THIRD TIME. Hope that it will work. The first was at 5,300 km, the second at 8,000 km and the third at 9.700km. I'd had enough.

Third time will be the key! Ours took a third trip to get resolution, because the [software] fix was not available earlier.

Make sure you get 32.1 (which is the specific CVT changes), and then there are still the questions about "Throttle Body" and "Wiring Harness" which I don't yet have a clean understanding on what is changed out.

Our car now works well, but we've had each of these changes installed.

I have not had any problems with my CVT yet, BUT I only have 1400+ miles on it so far. Do you guys feel so strongly about the software update that you would recommend it to me immediately, or should I wait to see if problems develop first? I live 2.5 hours from my dealer so a trip just to avoid a possible potential problem is not high on my list...

You may have 32.1 on the car already. Call the dealer and ask them. It is part of the computer record on the car maintained in their system. We'd be curious what they say.

I'd be inclined to wait some, to see if there are any adjustments or rattles or ... (anything else) that you would also want them to resolve for you.

Enjoy the car!

Absolutely worst case ... you would need to have it flatbedded (at MINI expense) to the dealer. They've now even worked out some of the nuances of reimbursement for these situations. I've had good support.

I've got over 9100 miles on my CVT and I'm very happy with it. It has shown a few slight signs of some of the milder problems mentioned here, but nothing that I've even bothered to take it in for.

I think the term in boarding on snow is "carving", which is what we managed in our MINI Cooper CVT this afternoon. Fun!

Medium speed, fairly tight corners, with elevation changes to make the suspension work, this is where I'm finding the MINI to shine. It hooks up and stays planted so long as you're moving. Wonderful chassis just like the reviewers are saying.

The motor likes something over 3000rpm to redline, and the transmission tightly holds a "gear" which allowed easy weight transfer to help rotation in some of the corners. CVT; no worries, no hassles, and effective in this non-competitive driving environment on real-world roads.

The suspension is wonderful, but I'd now like better rubber and wider wheels (we still have the standard tires on 7-hole 15" wheels).

OK, I'll admit that all letter-coded electronics played a role on a couple of occasions.
