Offline | Our 14 Feb 03 build CVT has just over 1,000 miles on it so far. It does drive like it's on a rubber band at slow speeds, and sometimes when sitting at a light, if feels like we got rammed by the car behind us. The first 500 miles or so, it felt like it was changing gears like a conventional transmission. Now it is driving smother (at speed) and is more like what I expected a CVT to be like - constant RPM while speed increases- very cool. Even with the DSC off, it is very sluggish from a standing start in every mode, and still has that slow speed rubber band feeling. Is this the software doing this or just how the car is always going to be? How do I determine which s/w version is installed on the car? -=Mike=- laissez les bons temps rouler |

| MINI2 Regular | 19,600 miles on my CVT with no real problems. It was starting to lurch a bit when starting up with a cold engine, but I had the latest software update when I went in for an oil change and now she runs smooth as silk once again. Great car, great tranny! ![]() |

Offline | No faults, no problems since Squirt was returned on 1/5/2003. Hey, I was messing around with another aspect of this most interesting CVT transmission tonight - gas mileage, not my usual mode! I'll put a note over on Cooper CVT driving technique. Offline | Again, I think most of the real chronic CVT related problems come from early 2003 MINI Cooper CVT models built between September-October 2002. This production batch was part of the infamous recall for the wrong viscosity oil put at the factory in the CVT transmission units. I am afraid that there are long term damage effects on these cars due to the improper oil viscosity used at time of manufacture. I think it woul dbe a good idea to conduct a poll to determine which CVT owners have experienced or currently experience problems with their cars based on their mileage and build date. Offline | So if such a poll were conducted in a new thread, what would the questions and possible responses be? Example, but you may want more detail: MINI Cooper CVT Reliability Poll Do you have CD#32.1 or later installed? Yes/No If yes, then please take this poll: Build Date < 02-0228 with continued problems? Yes/No Build Date 02-0301 < > 02-0630 with continued problems? Yes/No Build Date 02-0701 < > 02-0830 with continued problems? Yes/No Build Date 02-0901 < > 02-1031 with continued problems? Yes/No Build Date 02-1101 < > 03-0131 with continued problems? Yes/No Build Date 03-0201 < > 03-0430 with continued problems? Yes/No Directions for setting up a poll on MINI2: http://www.mini2.com/forum/misc.php?...q&page=3#polls '02 MINI Cooper CVT(6/12/02; Indi Blue/Black, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5") '67 Austin Cooper S (6/26/67; Tartan Red/Black, 10x4.5") Last edited by johnewald : Apr 19th, 2003 at 05:53 AM. |

Offline | Data seems OK, however mileage when problem first was reported and current mileage data columns must be added. Also it would b helpful to know whether the car was part of the CVT recall or not. '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

Offline | Call your dealer and give them your VIN serial number. Based on that info they should be able to retrieve your car's record from their service database and obtain the current DME software version installed. If the dealer gives you heck, put a call to MINIUSA. '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

Offline | Thanks- The web sites have been incredibly helpful. I have initiated a file with MINIUSA regarding my problem with engine power loss and I will contact the dealer to find out what version DME I have on the car. scooter1rad Scooter1rad |
