Offline | How many miles is your CVT with or without faults? Mine is 2059 miles with fluid recall fix and CD software fix so far it's better! |

Offline | Cooper CVT issues Our car is now running reliably with Release 32.1 and the new wiring harness. We have a lot of down days in the this first 7 months, but I'm hoping the EML faults are resolved. What does MINI actually call the software downloads? I was told "Release" (ie Release 32) early on, but more and more people are using "CD#", and some "Version." What does it actually say on the CD used by the Tech? |

Offline | 9100 miles and nothing worth taking it in for. It surges a bit at 10 mph. It has done that since day one. On three occasions it has lurched after I came to a stop and my foot was on the brake. |

Offline | MINI Cooper, Cooper CVT, Cooper S software I would simply recommend getting the current Version nomatter which car you have. Ours is the CVT which makes a lot of sense on paper but has had some driving experience issues. Release 32.0 (or whatever it is actually called) "gave us a new MINI." It solved many irksome little problems that should not have been there to begin with. It was a fairly dramatic difference, in the same vehicle. We love our car. It lives up to the image that MINI painted early on. The driving dynamics (handling, braking, steering, ...) are really amazing. It's the launch, acceleration, and routine stuff at low speeds that were messed up. Some of this remains, but once 32, now 32.1, is onboard it is much improved. So, take the car in to download 32.1. |

Offline | 2002 Cooper CVT (August 2002 build date) with 4K+ miles and some of the annoying but somewhat minor and well documented issues regarding transmission lurching, near stalling on a cold engine and rough idle. Other than that, the car has been extremely reliable and loads of fun! I have an appt scheduled for Monday morning to get the latest software fix update, CD #32.1, downloaded onto the car's DME.....can't wait!!!!!!!! PS: Will be taking it on a road trip to St. Agustin, FL in a couple of weeks!!! ![]() '02 MINI Cooper CVT On Order: 2004 MCS (Est production date: 9/5/03) |

Offline | 13,000 sMiles on Molly. Very few issues overall. May '02 build. Still running 3.12 software (I know I need to update... just a matter of scheduling). Only just started having the Cold Start issue around 11K sMiles. When it does occur, she always runs fine on the second start. Been having the stall issue - but after the 1st 1k sMiles I figured out how to limit that to a bare minimum by using the brake pedal almost like a clutch (except backwards). I only experience the tendency to stall when she is still cold. When leaving my driveway, I go about 200 yards and come to a stop sign. She always wants to stall at the stop sign - almost like when you are engaging a gear with too much clutch and not enough gas. So, if I just let out the brake pedal a little, the engine can rev up and she doesn't stall. Works almost every time. Anyhow, I'm going to schedule her for the latest update sometime soon. Everyone says the latest software makes the car like a new beast! ![]() Last edited by aMini2Go : Feb 20th, 2003 at 03:59 PM. |

Offline | After three fault events which required flatbed towing, we have had no problems since the car was returned on 1/5/03 with CD#32.1 installed. None. And, it runs very much more spirited. Only 5,400 miles on the clock. |

| MINI2 Senior | i have the same problem. in fact, my car is at the dealer right now. they just called me, said they've updated the OB computer software, and it shouldn't happen again. i'm keeping my fingers crossed. i'll let you know if that solves the problem. anyway, off to go pick up the car now. |

Offline | There has been some banter about continued problems in the CVT, but I think we have two separate groups now: 1. reliability issues (EML faults with required flatbed towing) and 2. performance issues (driving characteristics). 1. The reliability issues appear to be resolved now. CD#32.1 software upgrade, combined with selected throttle body and wiring harness replacements have fixed these problems. We had 42 days of downtime with these issues. Not a single wisp of problem (even with track days) since installing 32.1. We have 6,500 miles on Squirt now. 2. Driving characteristics questions are still being sorted out. Now that our attention is off the serious reliability concerns, talk has turned to what could be improved or refined. Do you agree with these statements? A thread on Driving Technique is trying to figure out how to drive the car well, another on Objective Testing is to gather performance data, and each should collect performance issues and suggestions. Offline | 11,000+ miles. Was in shop for four weeks early on (May 2002 build), before they knew what was going on. They thought they needed to replace the DME, but reinstalled, reprogrammed and gave it back. Had 32.1 installed about 3 weeks ago and made a 2,000 mile trip. No problems. Much smoother overall after 32.1 install. |
