CVT and Paddle Shift

I read in yesterday's newspaper that along with minor price increases steering wheel paddle shift is being introduced on CVT models.

Does anyone else have any info? According to threads seen here guys have been having loadsa probs. with CVT. What's the general feeling?

I saw this one new feature coming because some people may still find the up/down (+/-) action of the 6-speed mode Steptronic to be a little akward.

The steering wheel paddles are cool, my only problem with then is that they become useless when you are turning the wheel, in which case, having the ability to downshift/upshift at the floor shifter is more precise and essential.

A friend of mine has a 2001 Lexus IS300 sedan with the paddle buttons in the steering wheel...he hardly uses them.

I think these paddle buttons are more useful in race track situations where the driver does not have to make sharp steering wheel turns, thus not losing the symmetry of the buttons.

The BMW M3 with SMG transmission offers steering wheel mounted paddle buttons standard.

Since the CVT performs better on it's own, I think the only time you'd ever want to intervene is when approaching a turn -- never within a turn. In that case paddles would be ideal.

Now if they could only have the paddle-shift as an option for the Cooper-S.

it's more like "if they could only have a SMG cooper S with paddle shifts!"
