| MINI2 Senior | CVT Neutral Drop G'day, I was just wondering what would happen if you did a neutral drop in an auto with the CVT? I know it's chronic for the transmission in a standard auto, but does anyone know what happens when you do it with CVT? Cheers, Jug |

Offline | I know neutral drops are fun but as a rule of thumb retain that practice for rental cars. Why don't you try to stand on the brakes instead. That seems to be the lessor of two evils methinks. |

Offline | My guess is that with the CVT, it simply wouldn't go into gear. Of course I could be wrong, and I'm definitely not going to volunteer to be the guinea pig and find out! ![]() PigLick |

Offline | Thanks for detailing what this means, and now I can say that I've seen it done ... with the most amazing scattered parts on an older GM unit. I wouldn't want to see the effect on our CVT, although it should be programmed to just wait until the revs come down. I wonder if the programming wouldn't protect the equipment (as I'm told the BMW SMG unit is supposedly proofed against this "mistake"). |

Offline | The Owner's Manual (p.46, top right column) states that the CVT transmission "is blocked" from being engaged if engine rpm is too high "to protect the transmission." This tells me that this Neutral Drop idea would not work. Who is going to try it?(!!!) Offline | I was thinking about this myself tonight... as well could you define "too high" is there like a 3000rpm or higher limit? cause I still think this would add significant kick - but I dont wanna kill my CVT in the process... |

Offline | The motor is rpm-limited to 4000rpm in P, N, and R. Just rev it up and the limiter will show you very clearly how it works ... 4000rpm exactly.
