Offline | noooooo! i'll get me coat then.. of course i believe you minty but i cant believe that this is the solution that BMW have come up with, i guess it takes first hand experience of using the system to make a proper statement about its user-friendliness but it sure doesnt look the part, for me anyway. being a product designer myself, i wonder what the other proposals were, and why this was chosen..? i like the steering mounted gearchange as an idea, dont get me wrong, but they look like sad bunny ears! ![]() ![]() |

Offline | haha, best response! i also wonder why they would implant bug like antenna (antenni?) on the steering wheel, considering there are other options. however, it seems like the original steering wheel already has multifunctional buttons on the front and back of the spokes.... and a paddle like SMG or SSG would be too close in the MINI due to its slightly larger than normal wiper and turn signal stalk... functionally i hope they are as good as the other controls.. i have the alarm system so the original wiper stalk is sitting on my desk, and the controls seems to be very well made even after repeated abuse off the vehicle... so, is it a R+ L- system or F+ R- ? or something else? at least it looks like they are sitting where your thumb would be resting close to... |

Offline | I'm hoping that some aftermarket chaps build something like this: my mockup We're getting the paddle shifters with our May production Cooper CVT, and at least for Canada, I think the paddles are standard on any CVTs, so hopefully someone will see the market and build some shifters that dont look like blocks of cheese. I agree with Mark on this, who the hell chose this design!? its more like something you'd see in one of the new VW Bugs than the Mini. I want the paddle shifters, but not how they look right there, it just messes with the curves of the whole interior. Heres hoping someone will be able to come up with a nice kit that will give us the chance to have some nice slick shifters installed. |
