CVT Software Version Differences

There are plenty of great threads giving lots of info regarding the CVT. Just reading one of johnewalds last posts saying that he was playing around with the new software version 33.2.
You can find this post here.
Id like to start a new thread (hopefully) just on the differences between the software updates...
Has anyone tried a few different updates? Written down the results of testing?
I know that to begin with there was a lack of low RPM power, but read somewhere that one of the new software updates has made this better...
Anyone got any useful information on this?
Thanks in advance...

I was wondering if any of the MINI Techs who watch these threads might be able to help set this up. Surely there is some Version Description issued with each new CD. If we had that, what the version is supposed to correct or add, then meaningful feedback could be generated for everyone.

So far, the threads that took off are those which initially alerted everyone that a new version was released. It then contains that details and reactions from all of us. Search should find some of the previous threads, like the one you linked.

Also, the "CD#33.2" naming format is not that old. I believe that prior to #31.x they were issued in whole numbers only, which is how MINI burned up so many numbers? I'm not sure what version was in the cars at launch in the US (about 29 or 30 is a guess).

They are up to 33-34 now from what my dealer told me today. I was also told that when they get an update it is automaticly downloaded to their system. They may get a CD, but it seems they receive a softcopy from Mini on their systems.

adgrimes good idea here really didn't take off. Why?

34 Downloaded

Got my MC CVT updated with version 34. The Rev is quite high to above 1000 RPM except turn Air Con off will be well below 1000 RPM
Never experienced engine dead problem in stop and go traffec since. One big improvement is that the jerk feeling when change from N to D is less noticeable.

I had a software update (want to say it is 33??) in June that helped my lurching a bit and has prevented it from stalling anymore. However in the past few weeks my car has really been driving poorly. Very slow start, fluctuating idle at a stop, lurching in traffic around 10 m.p.h. Can the updates 'wear off'?

I have also heard that version 36 is hitting the dealerships now and is supposed to be a fix aimed at the CVT, then I read elsewhere that it was another release that didn't have any MINI specific fixes. Anyone have any real word on it? I am about to call my dealership.........

Ohh I forgot to add that immediately after the update, my first start of the day is a little hesitant. Wasn't like that before....

I guess that it is not the update that wears off. Might be the ability to learn the driver's behavior that change the charater of each car. That might be the cause of what we have experienced. My car's rev fluctuated also after it got updated but after a day or two, the needle just stayed still.

Well I guess now I will see what the dealer says. Just hours after posting Holly stalled in rush hour traffic! I must have jinxed myself by writing the previous postings I used my roadside assistance and had it towed. I was just a few hundred yards from a bridge and the last thing I wanted was continue driving and then stall again on the bridge and create a traffic nightmare.

Has anyone called their dealer to ask what the latest version is, and what the latest version is supposed to do? Which cars is it aimed at?

My car's computer is being sent to New Jersey for the latest software version (36.0) that my dealer says DOES address the MINI CVT issues. I am hopeful (knock on wood) this may be IT for the CVTs. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Of course, I was told the same thing in June about the version they installed then...

I just want to drive my brand new car and not worry about it breaking down, that doesn't seem to be asking too much.

I still love my car, and having to go 4 days without her is going to be tough.......

Unhappy Stalling update

I just picked up my MC CVT from the dealer for the second time because of stalling, especially in crawling traffic. And now its got a new dent ,which they thought I'd miss, not so! Sometimes I think our Minis get treated like less of a car because its not a 'real' BMW .Well, its My first New car and I love it,but the service is another story. This time they replaced the DME and recoded, which I had asked if they upgraded the software the first time but was never given a straight answer.
So far I've noticed a difference. From a start the delay to get going is diminished and it seems to "shift" quicker. I'll be in city traffic tonight so that will be the real test.I hope this will fix it.I was starting to feel unsafe in my baby and thats not a good thing!

I found out that the stalling usually happens when we are in stop and go traffic and the CVT is left in D when the car stops for quite sometime. If I move it to N when the car stops, the stalling is rare

Stalled while moving

Mine stalled while moving at 5-10mph on freeway. When I asked dealer to update software, they said they did back in June. But I don't know which version though. Scince June mine stalled twice. Otherwise runs very well.

It seems that most of us picked up on the software evolution around version 29 or so, and it was in that range where the "CD#xx.x" format showed up. Some speculated that MINI would run out of numbers at the pace then being shipped.

A few versions have been big announcements for the CVT, and I'm looking forward to some of the details on this latest CD#36.0. Please ask the questions and come back here with anything you learn!

Smile Came back from first schedule service

I just had first scheduled maintainance done. I requested software update, rotate tires, and stall issue. Well...dealer told me stall issue couldn't be fixed, they were still waiting for the software. After picked up my car, I checked my paper work what my dealer did, but it didn't mention software update they did it or not. However my CVT used to jerk when cold starting in the morning, last 2 days no jerking and runs much smoother than before. I 've been using M7's Plasma booster for last 4,000miles, but that is the only mod I have done.
Is there anyway I can check which version of software installed on my MINI?

You can, and should I think, call the dealer to ask them what software version is installed in your car. It's not a national database apparently, but they record it as part of doing your service at the local dealer.
