A remarkable thing about the MINI CVT-equipped cars is that we are driving software. The computer won't let you exceed the programmed redline, and it shows where that rev limit is by performing a change there, precisely.

If your tach-displayed redline is currently 5500rpm (with red lights), you can run the motor up there in Steptronic and it won't "shift" until exactly 6000rpm (the redline confirmed from MINIUSA, ZF). The tach will display 500rpm into the redzone, which MINIUSA called a "cushion." Its been fixed in the latest software.
