Offline | CVT + Rev limiter, am I going mad ? I notice that our CVT cooper has a redline of 6,000 after 2300 miles. But Im sure it was 5,500 when we picked it up (there are two lights now not showing (5,500 and 5,750). The car will now rev to 6000. Can anyone remember, or anyone running in a CVT tell me if their redline is currently 5,500 ? I just want to make sure Im not losing it..... Thanks ![]() |

Offline | In a CVT the lights should all be lit, the 'normal' redline is 5,500. However, in 'kick down' the car will rev to 6,000 rpm, but still, all lights should be lit. |

Offline | All lights lit ? Paul, there is something inconsistent here... I am wondering if there has been a change to the software to make the visible redline 6K (but only after run in period). I appreciate the 'real' redline has always been 6K. I have been searching through the previous posts, and can see that the redline is 5.5K but the 'real' redline is indeed 6K Has anyone taken delivery in the last couple of weeks of a CVT ? Id like to know whether the car is run in, and what your rev limiter is showing. Im wondering if the new car's will show a 5.5K redline until it has been run in (mileage wise), and then revert to 6K. (effectively just removing the visible 500rpm cushion). |

Offline | Inconsistency Paul, try scrolling up to punkeyfunky's post..... He has the same 6K limit..... So my presumption is that all CVT coopers will now have a 6K VISIBLE rev limit (the only remaining question is if this is 5.5K during run in). |

Offline | Oh yeah. Looks like they might well have changed it then, be good if they did the run in too. I guess the reason for the change could be the fact many people thought it odd it should go way into the red (I did the first time I drove a CVT). It makes more sense the redline being at the redline (if you see what I mean). |

| #1647 of 1960 | I posted the exact same question as you back in early May 03. (03/03 build) My CVT Cooper showed a 6000 redline, and I couldn't be sure that it hadn't changed up from 5500, plus I saw different lit markings in various printed & online pics so I was confused about it. This was before the run-in was completed though. Eventually I determined that 1. They did change the markings from 5500 to 6000. 2. It had always been 6000 on my car 3. In the daytime I thought those ticks would light up at night, and at night I was so thrilled with the giant orange speed-o-meter that I didn't notice they weren't lit. (I traded the CVT back in w/ about 4100 miles on it and got a 5spd Cooper.) |

Offline | I'm really not trying to prolong this thread, but may I ask if anyone has a CHANGE in their INDICATED redline on the face of the Tach? The Cooper CVT redline has been an indicated 5,500rpm (the red lights start there) with a computer-contolled actual redline of 6,000rpm (where upshifts are performed). Many have felt, even asked, that this should be changed so that the EMS2000-performed "shifts" happen at a correctly indicated redline of 6,000rpm. I don't thiink any change has yet happened in the software or on the tach face indication. My Cooper CVT still shows 5,500rpm on the Tach. '02 MINI Cooper CVT (prod. date: 6/12/2002; Indi Blue/Black roof, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5") '67 Austin Cooper S 1275 Mk1 (build date: 6/26/1967; Tartan Red/Black Roof, Minilite 10x4.5" or 10x6.0") |
