great insight, thanks!

Hello,
Thanks nonsequitur, great link, I'd been "less obsessed" for about a year and tried to catch up using the search function, but I missed some great posts. As an aside, is there a way to "save" great posts for future reference, like saving favorites in explorer?

Seems ZF doesn't encourage tinkering, or that whatever tinkering takes place better involve some expert knowledge, and changes to the software as well.

Thanks to Cjgers as well, you bring up some really good points with the MG comparison. Seems likely they wouldn't want to use detuned engine if there was a quick/cheap workaround.

The Mercedes route with the A class points to other options. It's so easy to sit at a desk and imagine replacing the wet plate clutch with a torque converter .. no issues of access, packaging, competence !!

We've been around the "more power route" so many times, are there alternatives that haven't been touched yet? Is there a way to deliver the same power more effectively from a standing start ( such as a torque converter might do)? For example, every time I rent a diesel in Europe, am surprised at how effective they are in first 100 yards.
And I'd rather get max torque at 3000 like the MG than 4500.

I wonder if there is anything to learn from PT Cruiser world ( or part bin !). They must struggle with same weight issues, and they rely more heavily on auto customer base than mini does.

In the old days, simply more CC's would have been a tempting route to more torque with same HP, but boring out newer engines seems to be less and less realistic.

In the end, learning to do more with what we have is a worthwhle quest, and maybe MIni/ZF will eventually assist with some customisation of the software. Like an equalizer on a stereo, we coujld dial " track" mode, "picnic" mode, " old lady" mode
cheers!

Yes, I wonder what type of engine modification could reduce the rpm at which maximum torque is delivered?

Electric?

Hi,
The goofy answer is electric, which seems to have huge torque!
But it may not be that goofy, with the components comming down as Prius
and such gain traction.
cheers!

How about supercharging or turbocharging? With supercharging/turbocharging, the amount of torque is also increased by a non-trivial amount in addition to lowering and broadening the peak torque curve.

One way is the subscribe to the thread from your User Control Panel. There is a personalized listing there, which you can modify and manage: "Subscribed Threads in Folder: Subscriptions" There may be other more sophisticated ways that I haven't found yet, except "Search" which can now be done at the Board or Thread level.

We may be a the right time to ask this question forward again.

I'd stay with my consistent request, please disable the software module that makes the fake "shifts". We don't need it, and it hides the magic benefits of the CVT, which include performance and economy.

What do you wish for in the MINI?
