View Poll Results: So why did you choose a CVT?
I have driven plenty of manuals in my life…and quite frankly I prefer driving a car with an “automatic-type” transmission…and the CVT is way better than old fashioned “slush-boxes”. 6 17.65%
While I’m not generally a fan of “automatic-type” transmissions the CVT technology is so cool that I just had to have one. 3 8.82%
While I might have preferred a manual, I have family members who are "auto only"…and sometimes life is about making reasonable compromises. 7 20.59%
I have a disability that makes pushing a clutch either impossible, or at least not very much fun. 2 5.88%
I have actually never owned a manual (don’t really know how to drive one?) so I never even considered getting anything but a CVT. 2 5.88%
I don’t know how to drive a manual, but I did/am give learning serious thought…still kind of intimidated by the whole idea. 4 11.76%
I have a manual and totally love it 2 5.88%
If it weren't for traffic, I'd own a manual. 8 23.53%
Voters: 34. You may not vote on this poll

d.

Now don't push me into voting for "I have a manual and I love it"

For those who don't know it quite a few of us here have argued ourselves silly (and had some good laughs in the process) over the merits (or is that de-merits? ) of building an Automatic MCS over in the "Future Variants" forum.

But on a serious note the last thing I want to happen here is to have a CVT vs manual debate. People have a number of considerations to make when chosing their car specs and I figured it would be interesting to see how and why people chose CVT's.

And yes, I still haven't driven one yet

They say Maria's started really house hunting around up here. Hmmm, my neighbors are selling their place....

Getting vaguely back on subject, we've only had 18 CVT owners vote (I'm not counting the two who voted for "I have a manual and totally love it," since they clearly don't have CVTs. 18 is not all that many. I'm curious, anybody know what CVT sales are like overall?

Spy,

You know I am a fan of yours......But, isn't it time we have a poll on when "you" will drive a CVT? Next time at the dealer? Take up the LA offer? Head to Colorado or the myriad of other states within this thread?

Long Beach has a demo CVT

As I recall, there were a healthy group of CVT's along with mine on the boat. Surprizingly, there were more "S"s. I say surprizingly because I thought the "S"s were rationed. More hype to get more $$$ I suppose. (BTW, the model and trans was determined by letters in the vin, TC, TD and TJ, I don't remember which was which anymore)

I think CVT sales got off to a slow start, what with late & limited availability the first year and possibly people not knowing what they were. But I will say I think CVT sales are picking up, at lease around Wash. D.C. Several weeks ago I was at Tate MINI of Annapolis for service and they had 10 MC on the lot; 9 of which were CVTs.

I saw she was looking at that white elephant in Carmichael (sp?) that Nancy Reagan liked so well. What's it called? Casa de los Governators? Something like that

If it was me I'd buy a beautiful old place on Crocker Rd.

Sorry, I have been spending most of my free time trying to reproduce

Now that it appears that chore is off my back maybe I can get around to some of the things that really matter...like testing a CVT

Really love to get one one of those babies out in the canyons

Two reasons I wanted a CVT. 1st, I have always driven a shift until my last car which was automatic. After driving it for 3 years I just didn't want to go back to clutch again. 2nd, I had planned on getting a remote starter which can only be gotten on an auto as car must be left in gear. I ended not getting remote starter as I found out it would void warrenty because it would have to override kill switch function. Also cost of installation around 700.00. Anyway love my CVT
