| I have driven plenty of manuals in my life…and quite frankly I prefer driving a car with an “automatic-type” transmission…and the CVT is way better than old fashioned “slush-boxes”. | | 6 | 17.65% |
| While I’m not generally a fan of “automatic-type” transmissions the CVT technology is so cool that I just had to have one. | | 3 | 8.82% |
| While I might have preferred a manual, I have family members who are "auto only"…and sometimes life is about making reasonable compromises. | | 7 | 20.59% |
| I have a disability that makes pushing a clutch either impossible, or at least not very much fun. | | 2 | 5.88% |
| I have actually never owned a manual (don’t really know how to drive one?) so I never even considered getting anything but a CVT. | | 2 | 5.88% |
| I don’t know how to drive a manual, but I did/am give learning serious thought…still kind of intimidated by the whole idea. | | 4 | 11.76% |
| I have a manual and totally love it | | 2 | 5.88% |
| If it weren't for traffic, I'd own a manual. | | 8 | 23.53% |

Offline | Poll: Why did you buy (or thinking of buying) a CVT? Thought it might be fun to find out what brings people to the CVT. Please choose the answer that best fits your primary reason for choosing a CVT. ![]() |

| I can't answer anything in the poll.....Moved from open spaces (mountains/rural) to city. Found it a pain to have a manual in the traffic we have and not be able to fully enjoy. Decided it was time to go to an automatic, MINI is supposed to be my keeper. I love the CVT and have great fun with it, wouldn't change my decision, lots of play time has been enjoyed. But I also miss a manual....something tells me there is probably more fun around the corner with a manual when heading out to open spaces.... |

Offline | An automatic is such a joy to drive. I've had my share of manuals. Getting an automatic is partly the reason of getting a new car, my MINI. I drive a lot in city traffic, but highway traffic is also dense at times. An automatic will suffice even when spirited driving is at hand. Remember >50% of Porsches are automatics. Offline | Oh, and we need a new Poll entry: So why did you choose a CVT? I have driven [yada yada yada]. And there are family members who are terrible at starting on an incline. Black / Whte Cooper |

Offline | Although I could have opted for choice #1, instead I clicked on the "disability" option - in my case it's not pushing in the clutch but shifting gears - bad wing - old war injury and all that. I'm at 2,400 plus miles and have loved every bit of it! ![]() First love: MC CVT Indi Blue/White '04 Past MINI: MC CVT PW/Black '06 Present MINI: MCa Clubman BRG/BLK '08 |

Offline | I can't actually find a resonse on that poll that fits my reasons, either. I'm with Trina and Spookyfish. Traffic kills a manual's allure - too much on and off the clutch. Plus hills are no joy - and even tho I still shift my other cars, I'm sold on this CVT. BCNU, Rob in Dago ![]() Brooksie, the 2002 BRG & W Cooper, lets me sit in the drivers seat sometimes. |

Offline | Another poll option?? I've already voted, but I wanted a "Sometimes I like to shift, sometimes I don't" option. Traffic = no fun with a stick; Twisty, technical roads = love to have total control. Just my $0.02 worth... -- Thanks for reading! -- |

Offline | I would not be adverse to adding or changing poll options. If there is somethig you want to suggest maybe Nonsequitur could add another option. I kind of thought not liking to shift in traffic, or problems with hills would fall into the "I prefer autos" catagory for those who have experience with manuals...and wouldn't really be an issue for those who have never owned a manual. But now I see the value in a "Sometimes I like to emulate the control of a manual (without actually pushing a clutch) and sometimes I just like to let the computer take over the job while I relax" option. Actually maybe there should be two new options: 1. I used to drive manuals so now I still want to emulate the control of a manual (without actually pushing a clutch) and sometimes I just want to let the computer take over the job while I relax". 2. I used to drive standard automatics but now I want to be able to emulate the control of a manual (without actually pushing a clutch) and sometimes I just want to let the computer take over the job while I relax". ![]() |

Offline | OK, with Spy Car also stepping in to suggest modifying this Poll, I'll do it and reset all the entries so you can all vote again. I irresponsibily did the ruthie thing to have fun in a way that was being suggested in the thread. I won't do that again because it creates a moving target and destroys the intent by the author (Spy Car in this case). Apologies to all. Traffic frustrations seem to be the main issue, so how about one more option like Grumbler suggested?: If it weren't for traffic, I'd own a manual. '02 MINI Cooper CVT (prod. date: 6/12/2002; Indi Blue/Black roof, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5") '67 Austin Cooper S 1275 Mk1 (build date: 6/26/1967; Tartan Red/Black Roof, Minilite 10x4.5" or 10x6.0") |

Offline | I too would have chosen If it weren't for traffic, I'd own a manual. Really wanted an S but the thought of shifting 6 gears for 2 hours a day in LA traffic turned me around. Mileage is my main concern |
