Angry My CVT Stalled

Hello Everyone

today my CVT Stalled while i was on the road

i was driving normally to work and came to a stop because of the traffic light

as soon as i let the Foot off the brake my car start to shake rapidly and the car Stalled
so had to put the car on park and restarted the engine.

Anyone in the Forum had this happened to them?

Hehe.

Na, it doesnt sound like anything to worry about - as long as it doesnt happen everytime you stop

On cold mornings my Nissan will go to stall as soon as you pop the clutch in. Revs drop to about a 400 idle. A gut load of throttle usually fixes it

Hurry up and get here MCS!

Yeah i reckon Scotty ....but your MCS should be there soon ... where as me, i have another 2-3 yrs or so to wait until 2007 (Age = 25 hence cheaper insurance) hopefully they have designed the new engine block and the 1.8L turbo is in then

but for the mean time i am going to stick with my MC CVT which is still goes good ... i love the car alot of TLC was given to it.

2007 seems so far away argh!

That happened to me like 3 times in my Saturn a month ago (before I got my mini) and it was diagnosed as a broken vacuum tube. It was fixed and didn't have any problems for the next two weeks. Then I got my mini!!!!!!!!!

Coming soon to a road near you!

At least you have a MINI!

Yep, by all accounts, youd be pretty safe betting the turbocharged 1.8 will be in the front by then

When people talk about their MINIs stalling on cold mornings, how cold are we talking about? As a former resident of Honolulu my definition of cold is somewhat different than others. I've never had a stalling problem, but my MINI has never seen a temp south of about 30 degrees and is always parked in the garage at night.

It has been a Little Cold Down in Sydney these couple of day because winter is coming..lol

but it could be that i was a lil low on fuel as well and could be a combination of things that caused the stalling on my CVT

regards,
Eric

The CVT has a clutch just like a manual. If the computer wasn't perfect at controlling the clutch, it could stall. It would feel just like a manual stalling.

I don't know how "normal" this is, but this CVT is no ordinary automatic.

It could be the wiring harness or the software. If the computer gets "confused" it doesnt know how to idle the car right and clutch and stalls it. CVTs are strange indeed. Would almost prefer a regular auto like they are putting in the auto MCS.

My CVT MINI engine stalled 3 times half year ago. It is not cold at all. Around 25'c. Then I brought it in to BMW for checkup. They said they upgrade the software and it's ok since then.
But last month, my CVT transmission gearbox failure. They replaced the whole gearbox and the computer. Before it fails, there is nothing wrong except that it "drinks" my gas like a V12 engine. I can only travel 60 freeway miles with 2/3 tank.
