CVT Shifter Cracked!?

I was cleaning the interior of my 4 month old Cooper and I noticed tiny hairline fractures just beneath the surface of the metallic part of my CVT shifter. I realize this post may be better suited for the "Faults & Fixes" or "Interior" forums, but I wanted to see if other CVT owners had the same problem.

What specific part of the "shifter" are you looking at? Have you removed the boot to clean under there?

I should say the hairline cracking isn't that big a deal... but it's just at the top of the gear shifter -- the metallic part -- small cracks are visible just below the surface. I've not removed the boot or done any other extensive cleaning. And like I said, I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it, but it is very odd, and I just wonder if anyone else has the same thing going on.
