Offline | CVT Website with Info Here's a website article I found today that is interesting reading about the CVT. Don't know if it has been posted before as it appears to be over a year old. http://www.technofile.com/cars/cvts.html Sorry, I can't get this website to open as it is not highlighted, so you will need to retype it. Offline | That's a straight-forward and interesting link, providing some more validation to the statement that we are driving an interesting and capable machine. Offline | Yes, I'm very excited about the CVT. Someone said the other day that the CVT was banned from formula 1 racing because it was so dominating. That was a very interesting statement, and I did not know about that, having not really followed racing that much until I got the MINI. I figure it must be that extreme engine braking that would make a big difference, if I had to guess on that. ![]() "Bluebird" 2004 IB/W MC |

Offline | No, it wasn't the braking. The CVT allows the motor to "at the optimum" output, while the gearbox is used to manage ratio adjustments and acceleration, exactly as the MINI CVT-equipped cars can do. That's what got it banned - it was going to be too good. Do a search here in MINI2; we put up a thread that has descriptions, pictures, and links in it to the Williams/Renault FW15c CVT.
