Offline | Or maybe that was their whole point...letting us find out the troubles and joys of the CVT and sharing and caring, thus making the MINI community a stronger one indeed! Sort of a "god works in mysterious ways" argument...hahaha... ![]() ***BMW-AG Rocks!!!*** Portsmouth FC Can Thank Sunderland...What a Farce!!! |

Offline | I got my 05 CVT after Thanksgiving, and already have nearly 1500 miles on it... so I can really let it out Yup it jerks a bit at the start, but only in reverse. I have always had a manual before (Alpha spyders, Miata) so this was a big change for me. I am only switching to manual mode when I want to help it uphill... otherwise I'm pretty pleased with the CVT response. I love the car... pure silver with black roof, cold weather and sports package. Definitely chic ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | Before ordering my CVT i spent a lot of time reading through posts on this forum, learning all the upsides and downsides to the transmission and still decided to go with it. I was surprised then, that even after 2000+ miles i've not experienced any jerking when pulling away, no jerking in reverse (well, none that wasnt my fault, anyway ) and, in fact, no problems whatsoever! Also, its a lot more powerful than what i'm used to, granted that what i'm used to was a 1.0 litre 45bhp rustbucket!I dont even have any dash rattles yet! (touch wood) |

Offline | I picked up my '05 CVT last Friday and immediately felt the jerkiness at low speeds. I thought it was me, but my husband drove it and he said he also felt it. After driving it for a couple days it felt better and I thought I was getting used to it or driving it better. But then after not driving it for two days and then driving it to work today, I felt it again. I'm assuming that the more I drive it, the more I'll adapt to it. I love this car. ![]() |

Offline | As others have said in the past the trick to avoiding/minimizing the "jerkiness" is smooth throttle pressure. I find that I've had to modify my driving style to adapt...I used to "feather" the gas to move forward a bit, especially during that awkward period at a light where the car in front of you starts/stops/starts again. I now let the car in front of me get off a little ways before accelerating myself. I'm just past the break-in period (about 1300 miles) and I still get the "lurch" between 8-12 mph if I'm not smooth on the throttle. (but I'm learning! ) |
