Removal of factory Air filter ducting?

Has anyone tried to remove the factory air ducting? the one that comes off the front grill and connects to the air box.
i have installed a RU 1550 filter and need some extra room. the factory ducting has 3 openings and allows air to be diverted to two locations for no reason..both are straight down and one of them is hidden an Ican't figure out how to remove the hole plastic assemble...
anyone have a clue about what i am describing? better yet how to remove it wiht out cutting it?
