Simple CVT question

There are so many CVT posts I'm going crazy reading them all just trying to get an answer for a very simple question. All I need to know is the process of how to get from one mode to the other. I understand that when you're in "D", you just push the shift lever to the right to get into "S" mode. So far so good. Then, if you want to downshift, you push the lever forward, and to upshift you pull the lever back towards you (or is it vice versa?...doesn't matter to me as I'll probably never use it ). Now, here is my question. Let's say you pushed the lever up one notch out of "S" mode into whatever gear the car happens to be in and you decide you want to go back to "D" mode. How do you do that? Do you have to pull the lever back to where you started from? Will it then say, "S" in the speedometer again and then you shift the lever to the left to get back into "D" mode? Thanks, everyone.

To return to the "D" mode, you just push the lever to the left. It doesn't matter whether you're in the "SD" mode or if you're manual shifting gears. So when ever you get bored with the shifting, or need to free up your left hand because the phone is ringing, just a quick push to the left and you're back to fully automatic.

Thank you, Lefty. I had thought that since you had to be in "D" to move into "SD", you had to return to "SD" to move back into "D". Now I know I don't have to (thanks to you )
