Offline | CVT Cooper loaner vs. my Cooper S While my Cooper S had a few service items attended to, I had the use of a CVT Cooper for a few hours. It's a pretty fun little car, but in a different way than the S. I wouldn't give up the extra power, but I enjoyed the sunroof, automatic climate control, smoth ride, and I even liked the CVT, in city traffic. I didn't notice any distinct quality improvement, in comparing the fit, finish, and other aspects of a new '05 and my '02 with 25,000 miles. If I commuted by car every day, I might prefer the CVT Cooper to my S. "I'll shoot for the queen, and you for, well, whomever." |

Offline | Good to hear this. Yes, we all love our CVTs here. It's such fun having just one gear with no shifts needed, or shifting to our hearts content. The braking is fantastic too. Enjoy your S, but don't forget about us CVT people! ![]() "Bluebird" 2004 IB/W MC |

Offline | Yeah, the "one long gear" is awesome and the SD mode is right a riot! The CVT is definitely a cheeky little animal... ![]() ***BMW-AG Rocks!!!*** Portsmouth FC Can Thank Sunderland...What a Farce!!! |

Offline | With the CVT, you have one less thing to worry about. You *always* get the perfect gear change. No need to heel and toe, match the revs etc. You can enjoy deciding where to put the front of the car without thinking about getting the perfect gear change Its a laugh going through the twisties in steptronic mode! Whilst I would love the extra power, over here the little blue pixies mean fun has to be kept a bit slower (well at least where I live ) |

Offline | I don't agree with that to be honest, that's why I'm not a CVT owner, I could never get happy with the changes for my (I've driven for several thousand miles). It's good, but not perfect in my view. |

Offline | Welcome vader. Good to hear from another happy CVT owner. I think you mean that with the CVT you don't have a clutch to have to use and work with. In manual mode with the CVT, gear changes are fairly quick, much quicker than any regular automatic, and are so much fun. We know you drive the stick shift S model Paul, and it certainly is quicker than the CVT and fun in its own right, i.e., a different way. We don't expect to make a convert out of you or other S owners ( ), but at least you agree of the many virtues of the CVT. ![]() "Bluebird" 2004 IB/W MC |

Offline | I hear you. With the CVT, you can keep both hands on the wheel, and with the MINI, you'll definitely need to be doing that if you would prefer to stay on-road. ![]() ***BMW-AG Rocks!!!*** Portsmouth FC Can Thank Sunderland...What a Farce!!! |

Offline | I like to think of the "model lineup"; each car has a place, a reason for being, and something to distinguish it from the others. Cooper S JCW 6-speed, Cooper S Auto, Cooper S 6-speed, Cooper S Convertible Cooper CVT, Cooper 5-speed, Cooper Convertible One D[iesel] 6-speed (maybe the best MINI of all?), One CVT, One 5-speed. The CVT-equipped cars are first and foremost "MINI" and then they are just equipped with a superior drivetrain. ![]() '02 MINI Cooper CVT (prod. date: 6/12/2002; Indi Blue/Black roof, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5") '67 Austin Cooper S 1275 Mk1 (build date: 6/26/1967; Tartan Red/Black Roof, Minilite 10x4.5" or 10x6.0") |

Offline | Yep. And to further on the last post. I really think that BMW had put a lot of thought into the transmission options for the MINI. This is quite possibly the only vehicle available in which the model with the highest HP and manual is not always the most obvious choice or most wanted. Regardless of the HP and transmission, every MINI model has advantages and disadvantages over the others. Rather brilliiant don't you think?! ***BMW-AG Rocks!!!*** Portsmouth FC Can Thank Sunderland...What a Farce!!! |
