| MINI2 Regular | it's a total mystery.... i've just about given up all hope here....sadly. mini has gone silent on the subject. nobody has any info. i've even begun to consider an aftermarket pulley upgrade from randy webb - if it makes any real difference. i've really enjoyed the jcw exhaust and air box combo - makes the car livlier for sure - but finishing off the kit is the clearly the goal. why mini seems to have completely abandoned us on this i just don't know... anyone? - drew 2005 MCSa BRG/W |

Offline | JCW Kit for the MCSa I've finally discovered why the MCSa kit is not available in the States (and in Canada, I'd guess). It is to do with the kit not meeting emission standards in some of the states. I found this little tidbit in an interview that Motoringfile did with the MINI product manager from MINI USA. Read the rest of the interview here. So now comes the next loaded question: how can the regular JCW kit meet emission requirements for all 50 states, but the same JCW kit adapted to the MCSa cannot? I can't see too much difference aside from the ECU remap. This is now the next mystery to uncover....![]() www.MINICalgary.com |

Offline | Not sure if emissions are quoted in the US/Canada etc, but here in the UK the CO2 emissions effect the car tax amount. According to the UK MINI site, the CO2 emissions for an S are 207 g/km but for the Automatic its 216 g/km Now the JCW website doesn't have 1 CO2 figure to compare off, it has 3 I'm sure someone will be able to advise which one to go off of. But it has...Urban 281 g/km Extra Urban 163 g/km Combined 207 g/km So if they compare the Combined hen there is no difference between S and JCW S as far as Tax in the UK is confirmed. But lets say in the US they go off of the Urban one to pass, and 281 g/km passes. If look at percentage increase of the Automatic 216/207 * 281 = 293. Maybe 293 pushes it over the edge. Im sure is much more complicated than that, and i suspect the CO2 emissions will deterioate exponetially Urban wise for the automatic. ![]() |
