Reprogramming of your CVT???

Does anyone else have to get their CVT reprogrammed every so often?

I have had Minnie back to the dealers now about 6 times in the last 18 months due to the car running very lumpy and not being as responsive as I know she can be It was last reprogrammed in October and I feel is ready again for another go The technician at the dealers thought that my car was "no worse than any other CVT" he had seen but they would put it on the computer anyway. No faults found so they reprogrammed it anyway......it was instantly better! It seems to just go "out of tune" if that makes sense!

Now its back to being lumpy and has a jerk as I set off from a stopped position.

Is there a newer version of the software available since last year I wonder??

That's a common problem with all MINIs with the ECU software, for all models, not just CVT. I recently had mine re-flashed or whatever they do, for the newest version (for the emissions recall), and it worked extremely well and was very responsive, a real good improvement. Then a few weeks later it resorted sort of back to the way it was before, not quite as bad on the jerkiness, but the power is less now and not as responsive. Real dissapointing! I'm looking forward to some aftermarket chips someday, and have totally given up on MINI/BMW ever doing their chips right. They obviously don't have a clue as to this. They have been able to get it to work decent and be quite powerful now, but it just won't last. Totally mindbogging!

I am delighted to hear that someone else is having the same problems! Oooh that sounds awful, what I mean is I am delighted that I am not the only person having problems as I am starting to think I am!

Do you know what version of the software they used was? I think mine was the 39.8 or something not sure but it was the latest available at that time.

I did not ask the dealer what the version is, but I thought people on MINI web sites said it is 39.7 or somewhere around that number if I remember right, but not sure, so you may be right as it could be 39.8. The chip does work better when you drive it hard, as it learns your driving habits, so spirited driving brings better performance. For example, the other morning the car seemed to be real sluggish, and in the afternoon I drove it in Sport Drive. Then, the next day it seemed to run better in normal drive mode. However, It still doesn't run anywhere near as good as when the dealer first updated the chip.

After my last reprogramme I went on the Darkness run so spirited driving was the name of the game, and god did Minnie get a working out that night The decline started not long after that run. I have now booked her in for next week and hope it will be sorted out yet again.

I hope it stays this time. Give it a month or so and let us know how it does.
